Ballad of the Tucumán Moon

Under the dagger of winter 1
the evening died in the fields
The moon came out to pray for it,
with its drums of sleeplessness
with its drum...
The harps of the air play
prayers in the white night
while violins are born
from the poplar trees of the valley
while violins are born

A zamba 2 of the full moon
dances at night on the streets
with its kerchiefs made of street corners
and its expression of longing*

The green cane fields
wear ponchos made of grey fogs
And the roads walk
with a safeguard made of orange blossoms
And the roads walk

The night, full of arpeggios,
The crown of the walnut tree
The tabret of the moon
hangs its clothes on the air,
the tabret of the moon

A zamba of the full moon
dances at night on the streets
with its kerchiefs made of street corners
and its expression of longing
My heart beats palms
with the hands of my blood,
all the while, the tired moon
falls asleep upon the valleys.
