Cecilia Bartoli - Riedi al soglio... Deh, circondatemi! (English translation)

Italian

Riedi al soglio... Deh, circondatemi!

Stelle! E fia ver? Ah! Dopo tante pene
Un momento di pace a me sen viene...!

Riedi al soglio: irata stella
Se ne chiuse a te il sentiero!
Pura fede, amor sincero
Ti richiama al tuo splendor;
Non più affanni in me non sento...
Ah, felice appieno io sono
Se serbai la vita, il trono
All'amato genitor!

Deh, circondatemi
Miei cari oggetti!
Voi che nell'anima
Soavi affetti,
Care delizie
Destate ognor.
Ah, sì... Compensino
Sì dolci istanti
Le pene, i palpiti
Ch'ebbi finor.
E dopo il nembo,
Di pace in grembo
Respiri in seno
Sereno il cor.

E dopo il nembo,
Di pace in grembo
Respiri in seno
Sereno il cor.

Sereno il cor....
Sereno il cor....

Aaah!

Return to the Throne... Come, surround me!

Stars! And will it be true? Ah! After so many sorrows
A moment of peace is coming to me...!

Return to the throne: an ill-fated star
Closed the path to you!
Pure faith, sincere love
Are restoring your glory;
No, I don't feel anguish within me anymore...
Ah, I am completely happy
For I preserved the life, the throne
Of my beloved father!

Come, surround me
My dear relatives!
You, who in my soul
Tender affections,
Loving joys
Always awaken!
Ah, yes... May these sweet moments
Compensate for
The grief, the worries
There we had up until now.
And after the storm cloud,
A peaceful refuge;
Rests, in the bosom,
A tranquil heart.

And after the storm cloud,
A peaceful refuge;
Rests, in the bosom,
A tranquil heart.

A tranquil heart...
A tranquil heart...

Aaah!

Author's comments:

1. I've translated "caro" as "loving" because it sounded less awkward than "beloved/dear/ special or important joys". "Delizie" can be translated as "joys", which in this context makes the most sense to me.

2. I've translated "grembo" as refuge because in this context, it sounds better than "lap", "womb" or "hidden/unseen part or place".

3. I've translated "respiri" as "rests" because I couldn't possibly understand why they would use the Imperative without a conjunction. I have also imagined that it could be the plural of "respiro", one of the acceptations of which is "breather" or "reprieve, rest", but that would be beyond strange and outright bad writing.
