Pierre Bachelet - Châteaux de sable (English translation)

English translation

Sandcastles

The sky was not always blue
It was not surprising
That it rained a bit.
We often woke up very early
To return to our spots
Sheltered from the wind.
Someone sold ice creams
And I, for hours,
I built sandcastles.

The sand was not warm
It was not surprising
That the wind blew.
We always had two bathing suits
To not stay wet
Even though it was summer.
I liked kite flying
But I mostly built
Sandcastles on my knees.

Sandcastles
I remember
That mine
Required
Only a little shovel a bit rusted
And some wet sand.

Sandcastles
I remember
These children
Often cruel
Who always came to damage
My almost finished castle.

Summer was not always there
Actually the weather
Was often old.
It was always in Normandy1
That my parents went
With some friends.
Memories are fading away
Only that by the water
I built sandcastles.

Sandcastles
I remember
That mine
Required
Only a little shovel a bit rusted
And some wet sand.

Sandcastles
I remember
That all the waves
Were deadly
When evening brought them back
To the castle I built.
