The scents of her life (Les Parfums De Sa Vie)

English translation

The scents of her life

(copy-paste of the title)

Even though she rolled
her half-naked body in exhausted bedsheets
until dawn toward the unknown
into one pair of outstreched arms after the other,

even though she somewhat playfully
slowly burned her freedom away
with the wind of her hair
and her blue safron perfumes,
still linger in her eyes
the remains of a banner,
the shadow of a hearse
pulled1 by looters.

Me, I loved her so,
I have loved her so much
that my body is mingled with
the scents of her life.

Me, I whorshiped her
worshiped [so much]
that my body is mingled with
the scents of her life.

Indeed, as her misdemeanours draw to an end,
her hurting eyes are late
as comes the time to leave
or flash a smile or a glance.
Her body lies open on the adultery shores,
to the bitter caresses of fleeting love

Me, I loved her so,
I have loved her so much
that my body is mingled with
the scents of her life.

Me, I whorshiped her
worshiped [so much]
that my body is mingled with
the scents of her life.

Indeed, she often offered
magnificent nights and dreams.

  • 1. lit. "pushed", but that sounds a bit ambiguous in English

Author's comments:

Despite a talent for poetic images, Art Mengo just can't help overdoing his lyrics (and music too!).
It would sound so much better without all this flourish, if you ask me...

De rien.

That reminded me of "Magdeleine". The song was rather catchy, it even made a small hit in the mid-90's. I'm grateful you brought it back to my mind.
