Falco - The Sound of Musik (English translation)

English translation

The Sound of Music

It all starts in a forest
All rights have been secured
Yet it ends at home
My hands are so cold
For a lot of time has passed
My soul is so pure
The rose knows the scent
My voice needs the air
For the wind is hotter than ever before
Be it rock, punk, heavy metal, politics or classical
It's all music to me

Hey, those were the days when hard rock was hard rock
Music was as tough as a nail
And our boys, they weren't lazy, they got out and made
It crazy but no-one left to tell the jail
The jack asks the king:
"Hey baby, do you wanna dance?"
They're making history, for they're on fire like never before
The first pre-elected Rock'n'Roll band

The sound of Music
Bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the bang-bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the hip, do the hop, do the oh-oh-bebop
Do the freestyle Rock'n and we never gonna stop
Mr President, we're speaking the same language
That language is called music

The sound of Music
Can you hear the bands playing, can you feel the bodies swaying?
And if you feel the groove, you better start to move
Step in time to the rhythm and move your feet to the beat
Hey everybody, give music a chance and do the universal dance

The sound of Music
Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It's the people's voice, they're gonna bring up that bell and ring
The Vienna Lipizzaner, they're doing the rhythm and blues
It's a Jailhouse Rock, it's stepping on my blue suede shoes

The sound of Music
It's Pavarotti, he is the biggest Bob Dylan fan
They're all making music for boys, girls and big tall men
It's Otis Redding, he's sitting on the dock of the bay
Listen to the band, listen to the big-band, to the bang-bang
To the bang-bang, blow horn

Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
I want you listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band

The sound of Music
It's Lennon-McCartney, Cole Porter, too
They're dancing with my babe, babe, ba-ba-ba-baby blue
Hey daddy, don't you bother me, it's gonna be my Rock'n'Roll day
Give the children what they want
Hear the universal choir pray

Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It's the people's voice, they're gonna bring up that bell and ring
It's Otis Redding, he's sitting on the dock of the bay
Give the children what they want, hear the children do the boogie
Do the bang-bang, do the boogie-bang
Hu-la-la-hu-la-la-e
E-oh

Author's comments:

As the story goes, Falco originally intended the song to be called "The Sound of Music" (with a "c") but couldn't secure the rights from the copyright owners of the musical of the same name.
Hence also the second line "All rights have been secured" as an allusion to that.
