Kosmikud - Su öödest (English translation)

Estonian

Su öödest

Su päevades ei olenud palju valgust
Su öödes tehti pimedusest pilt
Sa iialgi ei ajand taga algust
Su surm ei olnud viimne silmapilk

Su öödest, tehti pimesest pilt
Su surm ei olnud viimne silmapilk

Kui vaikne oli sinu lahkumine
Kas elasidki üldse? Mine tea...
Kui keegi küsiks minult sinu nime
Ma vastaksin: "Ei mina küll ei tea"

Su öödest, tehti pimesest pilt
Su surm ei olnud viimne silmapilk

English translation

Of Your Nights

In your days, there wasn't much light
In your nights, a picture was drawn of the darkness.1
You never chased the beginning.
Your death wasn't the last blink.2

Of your nights, of the darkness a picture was drawn3
Your death wasn't the last blink.

How silent was your departure!
Did you actually live? Who knows...
If someone asked me your name,
I'd answer, "No, I don't really know"4

Of your nights, of the darkness a picture was drawn
Your death wasn't the last blink.

  • 1. it might have been a photo
  • 2. "silmapilk" (eye+gaze/blink), usually "moment", here too
  • 3. Maybe the second line is identical to this
  • 4. Previously: "Well, I'm not the one who knows." Iit (no, I 'doch' don't know) should sound a lot more spontaneous. I can't find the perfect translation.

The same goes for reusing parts of my translations in your own (parallel) translations. Id est: it is forbidden. (If a translation is IYO slightly wrong, I'd be glad if commented or PMed.)
If you want to translate my translation into a third language or use it as a basis, you are welcome. Especially if you do it on this website. Just be so kind and mention it and me. :) You can also notify me (in addition, it would make me recheck my work and maybe find errors that you wouldn't copy then) but you don't have to.

Most of my translations are works in progress. One never knows when a revelation can strike. One word: recheck.
