Kokle - Gauži Raud Saulīte (English translation)

Latvian

Gauži Raud Saulīte

Gauži raud saulīte ābeļu dārzā
Ābelei nokrita zelt ābolītis
Neraudi saulīte Dievs dara citu
No vara, no zelta, no sudrabiņa

Ko gan tā saulīte tik gauži rauda
Jūrā noslīka sudraba laiva
Neraudi saulīte Dievs dara citu
No vara, no zelta, no sudrabiņa

Ko gan tā saulīte tik gauži rauda
Rīgā pazuda dimanta rati
Neraudi saulīte Dievs dara citus
No vara, no zelta, no sudrabiņa

The Sun cries bitterly

1The Sun cries bitterly, in the apple orchard.
The apple-tree has lost the golden apple.
Do not cry, Sun, God makes another one
Of gold, of copper, of silver.

Why does the Sun weep?
her silver boat has drowned at sea.
Do not cry, Sun, God makes another one
Of gold, of copper, of silver.

Why does the Sun weep?
her diamond wain has disappeared in Riga.2.
Do not cry, Sun, God makes another one
Of gold, of copper, of silver.3

I hope it helps, it looked simple enough. If a better translation is published or if you're unsatisfied with mine, feel free to request for another English translation. [Corrections made thanks to vilkacis.

A little correction.
In the verses 2 and 3 - the first line is a question, the second line is an answer:
Why does the Sun weep?
His (her? its?) silver boat has drowned at sea.
...
Why does the Sun weep?
His (her? its?) diamond wain has disappeared in Riga.

Corrections made. From what I've read, the Sun is a her (and the Sun represents a mother). Thank you!
