About me

As far as languages, when I travel to foreign countries, I always learn at least to say basic words and phrases, e.g. hello, thank you, please, where is the bathroom, etc.

The Asian languages have be the hardest for me, Vietnamese being the most difficult. I can only say "Thank you" despite having visited three times. I say a few words in Thai, Burmese, Cambodian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Arabic, more in Hindi, and found Bahasa Indonesia & Bahasa Melayu quite easy. They were amazed at me. The language in Madagascar was also not so difficult.

I studied Polish a bit prior to my trip there, then a few words in Czech, probably one in Lithuanian & Latvian. A word also in Romanian, Bulgarian, Laotian, a dialect in Botswana & Zimbabwe.
Italian & Portuguese are similar to Spanish so I was able to understand them fairly well when I was there, especially with my French ability.
Unfortunately I did not attempt to learn Greek, Icelandic, or Turkish. I may have missed a few countries, but just wanted to give a taste of the languages I have sampled.
