Sobre o capa do meu CD "Transa", porém, se imprime:
"Maria, pegue o mato é hora".

Segundo o que pesquisei, a tiragem original do disco onde a música foi lançada veio impressa errada, com a letra dizendo "pegue o mato". Por isso, a letra é muito reproduzida na internet dessa forma; mas se você se atentar ao Caetano cantando, vai ver que ele sempre diz "pé no mato".
Nessa versão, por exemplo, dá pra ouvir claramente "pé no mato"

A very difficult translation. The syntax and meaning are not clear even in portuguese, so if the text in the translation seems loose and fragmented, that's because so it is in portuguese.
*Pastinha was a great capoeira master from Salvador.
*Camará is a kind of plant, but in brazilian MPB music the word is largely used as a kind of meaningless interjection because of the funny sonority.
*More meaningless (in this context) interjections and words of the camdomblé culture and religion from Bahia.
*Recôncavo Baiano is a seaside region in Bahia, around Baía de Todos os Santos ('All-Saints Bay').
