Pater noster

German

Vater unser

Vater unser
der Du bist im Himmel
Geheiligt werde Dein Name
Dein Reich komme
Dein Wille geschehe
Wie im Himmel als auch auf Erden
Und vergib uns unsre Schuld
Wir auch wir vergeben unsern Schuldigern

In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti

Vater unser
der Du bist im Himmel
Geheiligt werde Dein Name
Dein Reich komme
Dein Wille geschehe
Amen

In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti
Amen
In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti

Vater unser
der Du bist im Himmel
Geheiligt werde Dein Name
Dein Reich komme
Dein Wille geschehe
Wie im Himmel als auch auf Erden
Und vergib uns unsre Schuld
Wir auch wir vergeben unsern Schuldigern
Wir auch wir vergeben unsern Schuldigern

Vater höre meine Stimme
Herr höre meine Stimme

Lasset uns beten
Der Herr ist ein Schatten über deinem rechten Hand.
Amen
Vater unser, Dein ist das Reich und die Kraft und die Herrlichkeit in Ewigkeit
Amen

Pater noster

Versions: #1#2

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
And forgive us our trespasses.
As we forgive those who trespass against us.

In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses.
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power and the glory,
Forever and ever,
Amen

In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti
Amen
In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
And forgive us our trespasses.
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
As we forgive those who trespass against us.

Father, hear my voice
Lord, hear my voice

Let us pray
The Lord is a shade on your right hand (*)
Amen
Our Father, Thine is the kingdom,
And the power and the glory,
Forever and ever,
Amen

(*) It is definitely "über deiner rechten Hand" instead of "über deinem rechten Hand."
It might also be "Der Herr ist dein Schatten über deiner rechten Hand" meaning "The Lord is your shade on your right hand" instead of "Der Herr ist ein Schatten über deiner rechten Hand".

Must have been a lot of work to copy and paste a prayer.

Smile Well, I pressed the button to submit too early. You must have stumbled upon my translation while I was still editing. Of course even now almost everything is the Lord´s Prayer but hey, that is not my fault. I didn´t write the song.

This is the lyrics of the song Vater Unser by E Nomine!
What can i do if they sing the Pater Noster in the song!

_maya_     February 3rd, 2011

That is exactly what I was trying to say. I am glad you share my opinion Smile !

You do not translate the Latin, "In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti", "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

It is unfortunate that you have just copied the language of King James instead of putting it in modern English.

Well, the task was to translate the song from German to English, which is exactly what I did. I thought that someone who is not able to speak German might want to know what the song sounds like for someone who speaks German.

Furthermore the German lyrics are not the modern German version so it is only appropriate to take also a an old English version. In addition to that I really hate modern versions of old prayers (or old poems, plays, etc.). The modern versions simply cannot create this special atmosphere that the old versions create.

However, you should feel free to post an alternate version.
