Attack on Titan (OST) - Vogel im Käfig (English translation)

Frieden, Chaos, Glaube, Verrat

English translation

Bird in a Cage

Versions: #1#2#3
The inner wealth of the people is
colourful as light, to shine inside through coloured glass1
The comfortable daily life
is like warm candle light

The very broad green earth
The rich pretty water
The magnificent nature still cares for its children

Hopefully one day we'll be able to understand it
We go to the other side of the horizon
Hopefully one day we'll be able to understand it
We go with a firm step

Everything living will die one day,
whether we're ready to die or not,
the day'll come certainly

Is that the angel which flew down from the dawning sky?
Is that the devil which crept out of the rock cleft?

Tears, anger, pity, cruelty,
peace, chaos, belief, treason
We'll fight against our fate
We mustn't submit to our fate

With sorrow and decision in our hearts
we show the will to move on
No one mustn't be deprived of his life waywardly

  • 1. I assume that was supposed to mean "which shines inside through coloured glass"

The German text is most likely not written by a native speaker.

I love this show! xD
Was actually gonna post it up the other night, but I wasn't aware of this version.

This was the other one I found:

Fumare ta hana no namae mo shira zu ni
kachiku no annei kyogi no hanei
shiseru garou no jiyū o!

toraware ta kutsujoku wa hangeki no kōshi da
jōheki no sono kanata emono o hofuru yēga ?
hotobashiru shōdō ni sono mi o yaki nagara
tasogare ni hi o ugatsu guren no yumiya

@nena.arindrasari: I thank you for your vote, but do you speak German at all? If you don't speak it then please don't rate this.

@SilentRebel83: I haven't watched Attack on Titan myself so far but I heard much about it.
My Japanese isn't good enough to understand the text of that other version.
The first line means "they are the food and we are are the hunters".

@Sciera: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought it was just a rating.

I speak german and while I can't argue its accuracy as it is very accurate it is very stiff and formal.

Your judgement of the style of the English version is correct, but you know, it's the theme song to an anime, so what do you actually expect? "Der innerer Reichtum der Leute ist/wie Licht bunt, durch Farbglas hereinzuscheinen" doesn't sound like anything a native speaker of German would be very likely to say. If anything, Sciera's translation probably sounds too much like English and not enough like Engrish Wink smile

So hallo ^^
Thank you for the Lyrics! ;o

@Sciera Your version is more accurate than mine! Thanks for it! One tiny observation: Glaube should be belief ...

Sciera    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 12:28

Thank you! I took a look at your translation, and while we understood some parts very differently, your interpretations seem valid to me as well.
And thanks for the correction, I've updated it.
