Lost hopes
So many beauties left in the corners of life
That no one wants nor even looks to find
And when the dreams turn to lost hopes
That someone let die without even trying
My beauty I find in the samba I make
My sorrows turn into a joyous singing
It happens that I carry the samba deep in my chest
Without the cadence of samba I cannot be
I cannot be, I swear I can't
I cannot be, I'm true
I've already been baptized in the circle of "bamba"
The samba is the rope, I am the bucket
(In) So many nights of sorrows it consoles me
As witness I have my guitar
Oh! If the samba escapes of me I know not what will be
Without the cadence of samba I cannot be!
I cannot be, I swear I can't
I cannot be, I'm true
I've already been baptized in the circle of "bamba"
The samba is the rope, I am the bucket

--"Bamba" is a Portuguese word describing someone good or expert at something. The "roda de bamba" (literally, "circle of the good ones") is then a group of established "sambistas" (samba musicians).
--On the rope and the bucket ("a corda e a caçamba"):
This is a expression used in many sambas. Apparently it refers to the joint use of both in getting water off a well. Being rope and bucket then means being inseparably tied together. It can also be interpreted on how both are used to attain the water to satisfy one's (philosophical) thirst.
