Maria va

Mirar rasgado
patitas chuecas,
María va.
Pisando apenas
la arena ardiente,
María va.

Calcina el monte
Un sol de fuego,
María va.
Temor pombero
palmar y estero,
María va.

Quiso la siesta
ponerle un niño
a su soledad.
De trigo y luna
y de su mano
María va.

Por el tabacal
su paso María va.
Y se bebe el sol,
que huele a duende
María va.

Andando el verano de sol y chicharra,
a flores del monte,
María, olía tu pueblo.
Un tren perezoso, resuello y resuello
a calle regada, María, olía tu pueblo.
A pura inocencia de niño pueblero,
a calle regada, a flores del monte,
María, olía tu pueblo.

Quiso la siesta
ponerle un niño
a su soledad.
De trigo y luna
y de su mano
María va.

Por el tabacal
tu paso María va.
Y se bebe el sol,
que huele a duende
María va…
María va…
María va…

Traducción

Maria goes

Slanted glance
bow legged,
Maria goes.
Stepping softly
on the ardent sand,
Maria goes.

Sizzles the mountain
the burning sun,
Maria goes.
Ghostly fear 1.
palm land and swamp
Maria goes.

Wanted the siesta
to put a child
in her loneliness.
Of wheat and moon
holding his hand
Maria goes.

Along the tobacco field
her steps, Maria goes.
Absorbs the sun
that smells like goblin,
Maria goes.

As the summer passes, of sun and scorching heat, 2.
like mountain flowers,
Maria, your village smelled.
A lazy train, puffing and puffing;
like watered road,
Maria, your village smelled.
Like true innocence of a country boy,
Like a watered road, like mountain flowers,
Maria, your village smelled.

Wanted the siesta
to put a child
on her loneliness.
Of wheat and moon
holding his hand
Maria goes.

Along the tobacco field
her steps, Maria goes
absorbs the sun
that smells like goblin,
Maria goes...
Maria goes...

Thank you Rosa, my suggestions:
Calcina el monte > the mountain's sizzling (calcine sounds a bit scientific)
Quiso la siesta > She ...(you can't omit the pronoun in this case)
a su soledad > into ...
Andando el verano > ... is ... / summer's
olía > used to smell
resuella y resuello > puffs along with me / puffs and I huff

Hello Evan,
This poem has a particular style. Have you read my comment? In general, it uses the verb before the subject.
In number 1, I would have to say, "un sol se fuego sizzles over the mountain", or "the mountain sizzles/is sizzling under the burning sun".
2. Look at this one: "Quiso la siesta > She ...". There is not "she" here. ""La siesta" is the subject: "The siesta wanted...". Is it o.k to say "in" instead of "into"?
If all this doesn't sound well in English, I would have to change the whole style. In the last case I would say "La siesta decided..." because it wanted and did it).
3. I don't understand what you mean with this one: "Andando el verano > ... is ... / summer's". Again, it has the same structure: "Summer is passing/ going" ( a summer of sun and scorching heat ".
4. "resuella y resuello" - I think that here the author is playing with the words and sounds. "resuello", in my opinion. is a noun, not a verbal form. and it is attributed to the train.

It was a challenging task! Please, give me some feed-back. Thanks.

Yes I did but now I get it, this style is called anastrophe and it needs some practice to get it right
1. Sizzles the mountain
2. Aha! Yes "Decided la siesta" is more understandable and yes "in" is okay
3. You must use "is" as in "passing is the summer" and "the" is also needed
4. Yes but since there's no more context and a stand-alone noun doesn't stand alone very well, so I think it's better to say "huffs and I puff"

I followed your suggestions, except the "I puff" (no room for "I" in this poem: it's all María and her surroundings). Anyway, there was a mistake in the lyrics.
Thanks, once again.

You're welcome, huffing and puffing sounds even better

In the video, the word is repeated : "resuello y resuello". Nouns. Could also be "resuella y resuella", and I said "puffing and puffing".

Look at this other use of substantives, without the need of extra words: "de trigo y luna...", influence of Lorca, I guess: "bronce y sueño, los gitanos".
