Snowfall

You just sit there alone at the window
The spot next to you is indescribably empty
Outside the wind blows its prettiest winter song
Driving ahead the snow in frenetic dances

It is so quiet here with you in your room
Only the pictures on the walls are staring at you
Telling you stories and one about a glimmer
From some time out of the past

Snow is falling on the streets before the window
And you're sitting there quite alone this year
Snow is falling and each flake melts in your hand
Like the memory of what once used to be

This song is just for you
This song is just for you

Where the Christmas tree used to stand in its corner
There is dust now and no candle is burning there
You hold a picture of your dear ones in your hand
Now and then you're watching the door, but no one walks through

Snow is falling on the streets at the window
And year after year you're sitting there quite alone
Snow is falling and each flake melts in your hand
Like the memory of what once used to be

This song is just for you
So each one who knows you remembers
To cut a branch off his tree
And knocks at your door
To present you with an instant full of warmth

Snow is falling on the streets at the window
And perhaps it will clearly dawn on all of us
It is often the little things in this world that are
Significant and festive, and closely encountering a miracle

This song is just for you
This song is just for you

"but it stays empty" geht wohl nicht,
darum ist "but nobody enters" dem Sinn nach okay

Ich fände "but no one walks through" passend.
