Bonjour! I am studying the French language and my love of it comes from my adoring French songs. Please, help me translate to English and to understand one line from Mireille Mathieu's song, called "Tu n'as pas quitte mon coeur" : "Tu etais le deuxieme l'autre me cachait le jour a te voir si fidele tu etais la pour toujours". Whether Mireille had two lovers at the same time and one of them ( "l'autre") hid her from other people curious eyes? Or "l'autre" is used for not repeating "le deuxieme"? Or "l'autre" refers to "le jour"? What does it mean "cacher le jour in the song context? I 'd be very obliged to anyone who can help to translate. Merci beaucoup! Sincerement, Stanislav Toronto

"l'autre" is for not repeating "le deuxième". it means "the other one "

you should check out google translator for minor translations like that. just letting you know.

The Google translation oftentimes isn't helpful, especially regarding belles-lettres.In my case the song by Mireille Mathieu."Tu etais le deuxieme" should be translated as "you were second-best for me,not of great importance".It's not straightforward- you were No 2. And "l'autre me cachait le jour " can't be translated as "one hid the day or light from me".The best metaphoric rendering is as follows " I was so blind and wasn't able to see how loyal you were to me". So it's impossible to understand meaninig on a meta level. The idiosyncrases of French count, the wealth and richness of the language. Please, help translate such sentences: 1.

My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love

My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord
All the Earth, let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name

I sing for joy at the works
Of Your hands
Forever I'll love You
Forever I'll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You

Please can someone help me with a translation for Les Neubians' Makeda? thanks for any help.

Makeda is French. Sorry for the omit.

Please help translate Makeda to English

This is close, but as I am not fluent in French, it probably needs a lot of corrections. It is a song about Makeda (queen of sheba) and Solomon.

One wants to make us believe in lost myths
Parts of history are corrupted and re-examined
From Ramses to Mandela,
So many unspoken truths
By being unaware of the original story,
one wanders without goal

Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To exhume knowledge
That the spiral of time erases

The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me.

Let us revive our memory
The history should be changed
History is being deformed by words….No
The knowledge and wisdom are within reach
Listen and pay attention

Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To exhume knowledge
That the spiral of time erases

The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me.

My people dance and sing
They express their joy
Far from ignorance
They show their faith

Blessed with men and values
We repair the errors
Sons and daughters you and me
Ready for the fight

Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To exhume knowledge
That the spiral of time erases

The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me.

Thank you so very much. This song is even more beautiful than I could ever imagin.
