I don't know if this is the correct forum for this request, but I'm looking for someone who is able to transcribe the Yiddish at the opening of this song by Matisyahu. Thanks for your help.

maybe it would be better to ask in some Yiddish speaking forum. I managed to transcribe the first few lines and google them - just to find no one has yet to transcribe this piece.

You may use the functions "Request lyrics transcription"

The English part was already uploaded, but I guess you can request a Yiddish transcription for something like "Intro for Bal Shem Tov", and leave instructions for a moderator to merge them later.

Good luck.

are you sure about "Elijah seine Stimme"? I think I hear something in Hebrew.

btw, this is a German text, not Yiddish.

I did a little asking around, and here it is :

the last 4 lines still needs to be checked, the rest are good.

אימת קאתי מר? - is actually in Aramaic, meaning "when will our lord come?"

Thank you, TrampGuy, for advancing our attempt to understand the opening words one more step.

it's kind of done really - the best you'll get anyway.

I'll do it tomorrow maybe (it's pretty simple, but there's also a story behind the text, and I always include background).

It's probably not perfect, but here you go:

It was Rosh Hashanah
and the Holy Baal Shem Tov
had a spiritual transcendence. (or elation - not sure what it's called in English)
His soul traveled outwards
up to the Messiah to meet in private.
He asked the Messiah:
"When will our Lord come?
When will you come?
Please come, Messiah."
The Messiah replied:
"I will come,
when God's word will be widespread.
Then, your wonders/pride,
shall be poured onto the world." (streets/people/bystanders)
Only with our good friend Matisyahu
Who, here, does the Lord's work (of spreading the word)
Who, here, spreads the word.

So the BST, which is one of the fathers of the Hasidic movement, transcended his spirit to meet with the Messiah (the resurrector of the dead) up in his hall in high heavens. There began a concern, for that long time has past, and that the Messiah should have revealed himself already. So the BST asked אימת קאתי מר? - or when will the Lord come? - referring to the Messiah, but at the same time, to God. The Messiah then answered: לכשיפוצו מעיינותיך חוצה - which literally means - "when your rivers will flow outwards". By that he meant, when God's word, or more specifically, when the Hasidic word, will be wide spread. And so that's the reason the Messiah has yet to visit. I actually had to learn all this stuff for this translation xD
