The small city [ I mikri poli (Η μικρή πόλη) ]

traduction en anglais

The small city

I’ve arrived in the small city, I see everything changed
The sun lights the scene, patched dreams
Dusty old photos full of spider webs
Old songs, old loves and summers

They don’t remember me, I recognize few
but the memories surround me like snakes
where are my friends, my dear friends
old company makes me ache sweetly

I see photos of the old times from the untamed years
Kaity’s hair has grayed, Alekos has grandchildren
And I, always leaving, lost in the masses, without roots
I search for forgotten dreams in the dust and I endure

But, I must leave and perhaps I’ll come next year on the same month
With a part of myself here and the other in Athens
just like the baby seeks to be nursed by its mother
and the tired traveler seeks a rest

They don’t remember me, I recognize few
but the memories surround me like snakes
where are my friends, my dear friends
old company makes me ache sweetly

I mikri poli (Η μικρή πόλη)

lyrics-music: Iraklis Triantafillidis
