Come and listen to my song
About a guy who thinks he knows that the hare has its time
You never know where he is, he's always on the go
He can be happy one day since he was wrong *
But when he's in a bad mood,
He can sit there and mourn and be sad because of it,
Then it doesn't make sense to disturb him,
Then you can hear how he lives in a hurry
I am a sad man with a sad mouth
I have small, sad eyes and a sad little dog
We sit around a lot in our sad grove,
Nils With The Dog and his sad dog
He is a sorry man with a sorry mouth
He has small, sorry eyes and a sorry little dog
They sit there and be sorry in their sad grove
Nils With The dog and his sorry dog
But sometimes he's happy,
You can see the happiness in his eyes' facade,
He sits there and parties with some lemonade,
Then you can listen to his songs he serenades you with
And then you hear something like this:
Now I'm happy, I was once so angry
Now I've gotten rid of my sadness
That's why I'm singing my song that's so popular
I am a happy man with a happy mouth
I have small, happy eyes and a small little dog
We sit here under the lantern in our happy grove
Nils With The Dog and his happy dog
He is a weird man with a weird mouth
He has small, weird eyes and a weird little dog
They sit and play tricks in their weird grove
Nils With The Dog and his werid dog
He is a tricky man with a tricky mouth
He has small tricky eyes and a tricky little dog,
They sit and be tricky in their tricky grove,
Nils With The Dog and his tricky dog
And so a stylish man with a stylish mouth
I have small, stylish eyes and a stylish little dog
We sit here and be stylish in our stylish grove
Nils With The Dog and his stylish dog
I was unsure of the word "vrång," since spending most of my life in Denmark has limited my Swedish a bit, and I looked it up here, and got this, http://en.bab.la/dictionary/swedish-english/vr%C3%A5ng. Usually, this site is a lifesaver but it could be wrong here, I'm not sure.
Well, the whole thing was difficult but I hope you get the gist, at least.
Nils med Hunden would normally make more sense translated as "Nils and his dog," imho, but in this context, it is referring to a specific Nils, the Nils who owns the sad little dog, the Nils With The Dog
