явяват се там,
на чела им левски знаци,
в очите им плам.

the Danube smooth and gleaming

See the Danube smooth and gleaming,
Raising ripples gay,
And “Radetzky”1 proudly steaming
Through the golden waves.
 
But when Kozlodoui2 is sighted
And the shoreline shows,
On the ship a flag is hoisted
And a bugle blows.
 
Young Bulgarians in a body
On the deck appear,
Lion-badges on their foreheads,
Eyes ablaze and clear.
 
(And before these warriors proudly
See their leader stand
And address the captain loudly
With a sword in hand:)3
 
“I am the Bulgarian leader
Of the men you see
And we go to shed our blood
So people may be free.
 
“We are hasting to Bulgaria,
Aid to her we bring:
We'll defeat the tyrant there
And end her suffering.
