Whoever Solely Lets Our Dear God Reign

Whoever solely lets our dear God reign,
And relies on Him at all times
Will be miraculously sustained by Him
In all hardships and sadness
Whoever trusts in Almighty God,
Hasn’t built his house on sand

We should keep calm just a while
And be content with ourselves
As the gracious will of our God
As his omnipresence puts things together
God, who has chosen us for Him
Knows best what we need

He knows the right hours for joy
He knows well, when it’s useful
If He’s only found us faithful
And heeds no hypocrisy
Thus God comes before we realize it
And lets good things happen for us

Sing, pray, and walk on the path of God
Carry out your duties with faith alone
And trust in heaven’s rich blessings
Thus it will become renewed in you
Then whoever places his reliance in God,
Will not be forsaken

thanks! I found the same modern translation as in the first link but wasn't all that sure how 4 verses are translated into 3. Now I see that it's actually 7 into 3 :)

You're welcome, and I'm glad I could help! :)

This is one of the great Lutheran hymns of the 17th Century. I have a couple of concerns with your translation of the title of this song:

1. "Wer" should be translated as "whoever" and not as "he." God's grace is available to any who will trust in God and not just to males. "Er" is used in these lyrics only of God.

2. To translate "walten" as "do things" is incorrect. It means to "reign" or "rule over."

Thus I would translate the title as "Whoever lets only the dear God reign"

Thank you brightswan for translating such a beautiful song like this :)
Trampguy brought me to this page and recommended that I should watch the movie. After seeing this emotional scene I really have to see the whole movie.
