Witch
"Paszeko*, in the name of the law I order you to speak!
Skcid, skcid, skcid nekorb, skcid lla gnoma skcid tsekcid eht, skcid era PS taht swonk enoyreve*".
Wherever you look there's wilderness, backwoods of a dark forest, lairs, marshes,
reeds, streams, cyanosed currents. There, at the time, at the brook, by the cascade she was seen. Seven wiorst* from the village, in a cottage on a chicken's leg,
on a przyzba*, with a raven on her shoulder, with a wolf and a stick by her side,
wearing a black robe, kindling a spark under the vat, brewing infusions, for it's the right month...
There - fool's cicely, cicuta, mistletoe, wormwood, scarlet toads,
lovage, sow-thistle, grass snakes, bear's fat, her own saliva.
All of this, with various herbs, fills the cottage with a cloud of steam.
Whenever one of the yeomen saw her by the barć* sometimes, oh - "Praise be to God" - he said, and then he spat, spat three times over his shoulder and with his right hand he traced the figure of a cross in the air, for, as he says, the God would not let her turn into a bat or any other monster.
But why is that? For everyone knew that even though she lived in seclusion, she was a worthy person...
Whoever believes in God, help! God, have mercy!
Whoever believes in God, help! God, have mercy!
Meanwhile she was often called to deliver babies, considered to be a midwife until one time her hands brought a cold fetus from some serf's womb.
Then they called her a witch! And evidence? Plenty. For apparently she was seen on a broom, flying to the top of the Bald Mountain*, where, of course, "she made a pact with the Goat". "Infanticide, she smelled like sulfur! Surely she's the Devil's concubine, shared bed with the Fiend!", "This dryad*! She's a striga*!" - that's what people said in the tavern.
But why is that? For everyone, everyone knew that even though she lived in seclusion, she was a righteous person.
Meanwhile the Orthodox Church has performed their exorcisms, the throng screamed: "To the stake! To the stake!"
And the rooster hasn't crowed yet, as she was already being licked by the fire's tongues, accompanied by these human-lice's laughter.
Only lelek* with a tawny owl were shedding tears in the forest, echoing their noble accoucheuse. As the fire was painting stigmas and halos at the body of the "witch", a bitter hatred to the human kind was streaming forth her lips.
Devil's concubine, may the fire burn your sins.
May it burn.
For God's sake, you damned ignorants!
For God's sake, you damned ignorants!
For God's sake, you damned ignorants!
For God's sake, you damned ignorants!
And I am burning!
I'm burning!
(And I am...) Burning!
Burning...!
I curse you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

La Russie a lancé une guerre honteuse contre l’Ukraine. Soutenez l’Ukraine !
The song is written in medieval Polish and many words used there are incomprehensible to most (contemporary) Polish native speakers. Some of them were not translated to English because they either don't exist in this language or it would sound odd, and with some you may not be familiar so here's a little dictionary:
-
Paszeko - the name of a literary figure from the "Historia opętanego Paszeko" novel written by Jan Potocki. In the novel Paszeko was possessed by a demon;
-
Skcid, skcid, skcid nekorb, skcid lla gnoma skcid tsekcid eht, skcid era PS taht swonk enoyreve - a hidden message from Lao Che to their music publisher, SP Records, who had something against releasing this album;
-
wiorsta - former Russian unit of length equal 1,0668 km;
-
przyzba - an embankment raised around an old cottage's foundation;
-
barć - a chamber cored in a tree to breed bees inside;
-
Bald Mountain - from Wikipedia: a concept of East Slavic, and particularly Ukrainian, folk mythology related to witchcraft. According to legends, ravens, black eagles, witches and other paranormal creatures periodically gather on the "bald mountains" for their "Sabbath";
-
dryad - (in folklore and Greek mythology) a nymph inhabiting a forest or a tree;
-
striga - from Wikipedia: evil spirit, witch, hag, vampire;
-
lelek - The European nightjar;
