The River

Španjolski

El río

Soñé que el río me hablaba
con voz de nieve cumbreña
y triste me recordaba
las cosas de mi querencia.

Que cosa más parecida
son tu destino y el mío,
andar cantando y penando
por esos largos caminos.

        Tú que puedes, ¡vuélvete!
        me dijo el río llorando,
los cerros que tanto quieres, me dijo,
        allá te están esperando.
Los cerros que tanto quieres, me dijo,
        allá te están esperando.

Que cosa triste ser río
quien pudiera ser laguna,
oír el silbo en el junco
cuando le besa la luna.

        Tú que puedes, ¡vuélvete!
        me dijo el río llorando,
los cerros que tanto quieres, me dijo,
        allá te están esperando.
Los cerros que tanto quieres, me dijo,
        allá te están esperando.

Tú que puedes, ¡vuélvete!…

The River

I dreamt that the river spoke to me
with a voice like a snow peak
and I sadly remembered
the things of my homeland

The most similar things
are your destiny and mine,
going singing and mourning
through those long roads.

You who can, go back,
the river said crying
the hills that you love so much, he told me,
they are there waiting for you.
The hills that you love so much, he told me,
they are there waiting for you.

What a sad thing is the river
that could have been a lagoon,
to hear the whistle in the reed
when the moon kisses him

You who can, go back,
the river said crying
the hills that you love so much, he told me,
they are there waiting for you.
The hills that you love so much, he told me,
they are there waiting for you.

You who can, go back...

Thank you P. Freda for the English translation of the Spanish song 'El río' that I have proposed.
The river speaks with the singer about the hills there, long away.
'come back' doesn’t fit well in this context.
My opinion is that ¡vuélvete! would be better translated with 'go back!'
Friendly yours,

You are absolutely correct, I totally misread the context of this song. I have edited this to show the correct "go back". Thanks so much for pointing that out, it is much appreciated.
