Reven og bjørnen

Reven han sto inni hola og grov,
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
Steffa maure fatta i rova og drog,
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

Å kjære steffa maure du bier meg ei tid,
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
til eg kan få skifta ut sælegåva mi.
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

Å futen så gjeve eg no mi hu',
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
han plagar så gjønne at færa si lu'.
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

Og skrivaren gjeve og no mi klo,
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
han skrive så gjønne ei tjug for to.
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

Og presten gjeve eg no mi tunge,
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
for han må så jamleg for almugen sjunge.
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

Skyss-skaffaren gjeve eg no min fot,
her lier uti nipp sagde reven.
han springer så mang en bakke imot.
for bonden slenger vipp uti tirumtapp.

Og kranselin kom ikkje før rova slapp.
Steffa maure med sitt rosenskinn
han vant seier på Kranselin.

!!!!! The song starts at 4:55 !!!!!
After many hours of trying to make a good sensible translation to this song, I've given up. Although I could make a rough one conveying the general idea, I don't feel right about it, and therefore I hope someone else out there would be able to make a more professional one. here's a little background info that might help you with making sense of the translation :

The fox stood inside the cave, digging
----
Steffa maure* grabbed hold of [the fox's] arse and dragged

"Oh dear steffa maure, don't kill me off yet"
----
not until I can replace my dowry.
----

And Kranselin didn't show up until the arse gave in.
Steffa maure won because of Kranselin.

And now I'll give my pelt to the vogt***
----

And Kranselin didn't show up until the arse gave in.
Steffa maure won because of Kranselin.

And now I'll give the writer my claw
----
Because he has to write a lot of useless things

And Kranselin didn't show up until the arse gave in.
Steffa maure won because of Kranselin.

And now I'll give my tongue to the priest,
----
because he constantly has to sing in church
----

I'm now giving my foot to the ride-provider
----
He runs many a hill upwards
----

And Kranselin didn't show up until the arse gave in.
Steffa maure won because of Kranselin.

*Steffa maure is a certain species of bear, but I'm uncertain as to how it translates into English.
**Kranselin is the name of the cow.
***A vogt was the title of a reeve or advocate, an overlord exerting guardianship or military protection as well as secular justice over a certain territory (common in Norway during the medieval age)

This translation was difficult, and I have no idea what half of the words mean myself, as they're old, long gone dialect words. Also, the refrain is intentionally gibberish.

This is the main idea of the lyrics:
The bear attacks the fox in his cave, the fox has to be cunning to haul out time and possibly be aided by the cow Kranselin. The cow is slow off the mark and has to think carefully before helping him. While waiting, the fox recites his will, certain that he's going to die. She's so slow that the fox loses his tail. As a punishment, Kranselin is put to death, after she let herself be fooled by the wily fox.

This translation has quite a lot of mistakes and holes so I have submitted an additional translation with a bit more information.
