There are many translations on this site that have been wrongly classified as Middle or Old English. I have commented on all of the songs with this problem, but I feel like it would be a bit much to do so with all the translations. Would someone who has authority to change the stated language of a song be willing to check the translations into Middle or Old English and, if they have been wrongly classified, change the language to English?
I completely agree with you. Most English speakers wouldn't even recognize Old English as being English at all. Middle English isn't much better. (Try reading Beowolf or Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales in the original language if you doubt me.)
I am of the opinion that a volunteer group editors/moderators with at least some knowledge of these languages should receive an immediate notification whenever a new transcription or translation is posted in order to review them and change the language classification if necessary. The same should apply to other ancient and medieval languages.
Hey there, I've gone on and corrected the language of the songs you have commented on. Only mods can make changes to translations though so, have to wait for a mod for these. Thanks for reporting it though; it does look downright laughable when you see one of those rap songs or so tagged under Old/Middle English..

Yes, It seems that in the colloquial lexicon, the term "Old English" has come to refer to Shakespearian language (Early Modern English). I study Old English, and when I tell people this, I generally get a response along the lines of "Oh, like Shakespeare?" or "WHEREFORE ART THOU, ROMEO." And THEREFORE I completely agree with you that translations into ancient and medieval languages should be monitored. ;)
