Eine norwegische Kurzfassung des Rolandsliedes, in dem die Schlacht von Roncesvalles im Jahre 778 poetisch thematisiert wird.
Historisch belegt ist, dass es nicht die muslimischen Sarazenen - hier als "Blaumänner" (Blåmennan) bezeichnet - waren, die Karls Nachhut bei dessen Abzug aus Nordspanien angriffen und vernichteten, sondern (christliche!) Basken, die sich für die vorangegangene Zerstörung Pamplonas rächen wollten.

I do hope that it's fairly correct, though I'm not really proficient in this language. There are some points where I'm unsure. For example, could you, as a native speaker, explain me what the term blåmennan for the enemies will say (I just translated them literally as 'Blaumänner')?

I have a very very basic modern level of German understanding so I cant really tell.
I tried to explain the "bluemen" term in the "english translation#3", “blá” could be used to describe both blue, dark-blue, black and dark. So I guess it is quite litteral as the original authors probably lacked better names, knowledge and understanding of the geopolitical area at the time.

This word is not used at all today, and is very vague like saracen, moors and the like.
