The Search Fado

But why don't we meet?
In Largo da Bica I was looking for you
Campo de Cebolas and I know I can find you
I even went to the house of fado
But you were not in any place.

But why don't we meet?

But why don't we meet?
I'm unsure what to do
Whether to move on, oh Mother of God
Whether to turn back, oh my wheezing
And the river says: what a hapless afternoon

But why don't we meet?

But why don't we meet?
I'm sick of this, sick to be frank
I'll drink a coffee, sit and think
To see if this longing, is there or not
And maybe without wanting, people don't want to see there
Without looking for you, see you passing

WIthout looking for you, see you passing

Sorry my response has been lost in the system somewhere. I had thought that this was an idiomatic expression like "Mais vale tarde do que nunca." and mistranslated it along these lines. I did not realise that the matter was so simple. Have made the change.

I was trying to bring to you attention to some problems with the second verse.
if I should go forward .... if I should turn back

I do this all the time ! I think I have it right then on subsequent readings I find a flaw. I don't think I have ever posted a song I did not have to edit.
I don't mind if someone points out an error, If you mind just tell me Please!

System has lost my response again. In our local vernacular "No worries". Hope changes made are suitable. As I said elsewhere, repolishing is always an important part of translation.
