Ostend
Ostend
Like a secret lover, you did not recognise my eyes
But you recognised my spleen
And your icy clouds which came to blow their noses at our feet
And your old casino which kept watch
And even hidden right at the end it still spied us
I met all my ghosts there who I still miss everywhere
If I had to die one night, one day
It would be under your grey dress with green all around
Ostend
My anchor is hooked in the belly of old Catalonia
Which bleeds brick red and my heart forever anchored
Deep in that late afternoon when your took my heart from the far end of your Belgium
Ostend
you were pale and fragile like a sickly child
I kept the cloth of mist that covered your shoulders
In the back of my memory, from your eyes the light
And that of the Casino turned towards England
I remember that silence, that wave that goes, that comes
The one that leaves a lingering melody, heard for a long time even from afar
And then that friend who looked at me, happy
To see me at your feet, If he follows you to Ostend
That friend there, he’s a true one
Ostend
Like a secret lover, you did not recognise my eyes
But you recognised my spleen
And your icy clouds which came to blow their noses at our feet
And your old casino was still watching us

Re Brel... yes it's rather reminiscent of this isn't it?

Thanks - I think I've addressed most of those now. :-)
Except for "qui laisse une musique longtemps après, même très loin " - The English still seems to capture that meaning and I'm not seeing the typos... is it "afar" that you're not familiar with? It could probably use a comma but he didn't include one in his lyrics and I didn't like to presume to add one...
/edit - ah it's in the French yes?
