The meaning of the song is heavily tied to the television series When Heaven Burns (天與地, lit.: Heaven and Earth) in Hong Kong, which presents struggles of human nature in three people after having eaten one of their best friends while being stranded on a snow-bound mountain. There are references throughout the lyrics.

The song title and lyrics also have ties to Tiandihui, a fraternal organisation aimed at overturning the Manchu Qing dynasty and restore the Ming dynasty. Here the Qing largely represents oppression and minority rule, and the Ming and ROC represents the opposite (which can be awkward in terms of actual history, but this is just the vessel to carry the dichotomy here)
