Hi everyone
I've tried to translate a Spanish song with an ostentatiously Colombian origin. So I'll really appreciate your help. Here is the song and beneath it my translation:
Momposina
Momposina ven a mi ranchito,
momposina es para quererte.
Momposina, ay, lindo lucerito,
momposina yo quiero tenerte. (2x)
Momposina ven a mi ranchito,
momposina es para quererte.
Momposina, ay, lindo lucerito,
momposina yo quiero tenerte.
My translation:
My life is still waiting for a rose
For she's beautiful, though she's got thorns
I'm gonna take her to my home
Coz she's beautiful, my rose
She's got in her eyes the sweet fantasy
of my pretty region, it's why I love her.
She's given me all the inspiration
for my lovely song, for she is my bright star.
Ay! but if some another gardener comes
And tells me it's just a
I won't allow him to see it
Coz he doesn't know I'm her owner.
come to my little farm,
it's all for loving you.
,ay, pretty bright star,
I wanna have you. (x2)
come to my little farm,
it's all for loving you.
,ay, pretty bright star,
I wanna have you. (x2)
Here gives some words whose meaning I can't figure out. 1-Momposina 2-banqueño and in addition the line no le permito ni que me la mire could be translated as: I don't allow him to see her(it)?
Thank you in advance :)
no le permito ni que me la mire
I don't EVEN allow him to (see)(look upon) her
" ... ni ... ni ...." -- double construction: " ... neither ... nor ...."
cc
" ... ni ...." -- single construction: " ... not EVEN ....",
. similar to the emphatic or appositive " ... si ..."
ahora -- now
ahora SI -- RIGHT now
Momposina -- a woman from Santa Cruz de Mompox or its environs

banqueño -> guy from the city El Banco in the Magdalena department

"no le permito ni que me la mire" simplify it as "I'm not even gonna let her look at me" (She's not allowed to even look at me).
No, I agree with BuenSabor here:
I'm not even gonna let him look at her
