Mélanie,
Forgive me if I call you that
But there are millions of sorrows
And I gather in a single name
All the children of my song
The children who are at the edge of the night
The children who will never become strong
Mélanie
You could definitely tell me that life
Didn’t make you its best friend
And yet I see you smiling

Mélanie
It’s your courage that made mine
I who am so easily upset over nothing
I calm myself down when I take your hand

Mélanie
I would love to believe that this handsome prince
Who woke up, by caressing,
All the beauties of the sleeping woods
Would know how to revive a child with music
With the single flick of a magic wand
To heal the hurt in an instant

Mélanie
You’re not alone if I sing for you
You’re not alone if they hear my voice
You’re not alone, the world is here

Mélanie
All the sorrows are already becoming lighter
By discovering that we can love, one day
And it’s you who teaches us love

Mélanie

I didn't notice the awkardness. I'm generally much more comfortable with Québec French than with International French, so perhaps it is a peculiarity of Canadian French? On the other hand, I'm not a native speaker, so I could be completely missing the subtlety. ;)

That's really funny. I'll definitely remember that from now on!

"à" is a kind of catch-all preposition that can be used as a rather cheap way of sounding poetic.
Take any usual preposition, put a "à" instead and it will always retain some vague meaning :D
Some songwriters tend to use this too often. At first it sounds elegant, but the trick tends to get old fast.

Hahaha. This text should be footnoted below every French lyrics. :D
At first I thought that "I'm so strong while nothing's making me upset" was meant. :)

I think that sometimes it works, and sometimes - :(
You need to be rather a good poet to preestimate this. ;)
