Hallo Steve,

having seen that you consider silent night a folk song, which many people do, it might interest you that the original was written by an Austrian Pastor (Joseph Moor) ans music from an Austrian Teacher Franz Xaver Gruber, first performed in Church in a village in Austria in 1818 at Christmas.

If you want the original German Lyrics can be found on Wikipedia and you might want to add them to your page.
