I Could Be

I could be all my life picking up the stars that
you left scattered around the sky and around me,
I could be singing until losing my voice,
I could be your paddle.

I could be the one who keeps the remains of your kisses,
The last page of the book of your longing,
I could be pretending each night until the sun rises,
I could do so.

You can see, how I respect all that you are living
How I do this just so that you believe that it's true,
And that in my life are only left a reason and a verse.

I could be, the calm of the Great Way of any day of this month,
The mark of that book which you stopped reading,
I could even be he who never was.
I could be time in the subtraction of a meeting,
Where you always know that it's your turn to lose.
I could be the stubborn man who repeats the moments
even when he knows that once again he will fall.

What I could not be is either an excuse or a pretext.

I could be all my life the way that night watchman was,
closing his door nightly to his torments,
I could be a guard, a shout and a savior finally,
perhaps even your homeland.
You can see that my future knows more than your disdain,
That my present entertains itself like a fool
and that in my life are only left a reason and a verse.

Dear Ernesto, thank you for your wonderful translation! There's one thing I've heard mistranscribed It goes Podría estar fingiendo cada noche tan que salga el sol. I'll correct that, OK?

¡Hola, queridísima amiga! ¡Gracias por tu comentario!

I don't think "tan que salga" is correct. "tan pronto que salga" would be better. What was the original sentence? I can't listen to the video from my location--that's the message I get. Un abrazo afectuosísimo, ernesto

Ernesto, I went back on my correction but I think someone should listen to that. Can you ask some Spanish speaking user to see to it if you don't have it available for listening? Cheers, blue sky and fair weather to you! :)
