Najkrajší deň

Dnes je tvoj šťastný deň de e e e eň
Dnešok je jediná istota viem vie e em
Tak rob čo môžeš s tým čo máš
Tam kde si a to si váž

Jedinou podmienkou je urobiť to dnes
Neotáľaj musíš veriť a chcieť byť lepším človekom hneď

Dnes je tvoj šťastný deň de e e e eň
Dnešok je jediná istota viem vie e em
Tak rob čo môžeš s tým čo máš
Tam kde si a to si váž

lebo človek mieni a život mení

Tam kde si a to si váž
Lebo najkrajší deň najkrajší deň najkrajší deň je dnes

The most beautiful day

Today is your lucky day, da-a-a-ay,
Today is the only certainty, I know, I kn-o-ow.
So do what you can with what you have,
there where you are and appreciate it,
because the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day is toda-a-ay.

Today is the only day that matters,
We've got the power to spend only this day,
No other day is so important as today,
it is the only guarantee of reality.
Spend it well, it's precious,
it gives you gifts, wants only gratitude in return.
The most valuable thing
you can express is that you appreciate and cherish the chance to live today.

Only a very small percentage of us can really spend the time
in the way that we can grow up daily, overcome oneself, raise oneself more to the heights,
The best teacher is your last mistake, bad or good,
It depends on your seeing the stuff that you deserve to get
Because where you trip, there lies your treasure,
So don't even try to forget to dig in that place.
The only requirement is to do it today,
Don't hesitate, you gotta trust and want to be a better person immediately.

Today is your lucky day, da-a-a-ay,
Today is the only certainty, I know, I kn-o-ow.
So do what you can with what you have,
there where you are and appreciate it,
because the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day is today,
the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day is toda-a-ay.

The one who is hollow inside, is proud of his outside,
If you're lazy today, it's as bad as living in the past because you aren't taking advantage of this most beautiful of days, today.
Life is an empty jar, a man fills it up with meaning.
I'm happy that nowadays is marked by significant awakening.
My direction is to live as a good example every day,
Let the rise of consciousness take on a global size,
that's why the most beautiful day is today, because the goal is to do things your way,
So I appreciate what isn't seemingly worthwhile,
because a man thinks and changes life.
the most beautiful day is today, because the goal is to do things your way,
So I appreciate what isn't seemingly worthwhile
and everything bad turns into good.

Today isn't just another day like yesterday,
It's the day that we got as a gift, so let's be glad
for it, for it, that it came to us,
I'm glad that I live, carpe diem, I enjoy each day.

Today is your lucky day, da-a-a-ay,
Today is the only certainty, I know, I kn-o-ow.
So do what you can with what you have,
there where you are and appreciate it,
because the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day, the most beautiful day is today.

Today is your lucky day, da-a-a-ay,
Today is the only certainty, I know, I kn-o-ow.
So do what you can with what you have,
there where you are and appreciate it
because the most beautiful day the most beautiful day the most beautiful day is today,
the most beautiful day the most beautiful day the most beautiful day is toda-a-ay.

What? You again?

No other day is so important as today
that only one guarantee of reality
Spend it well, you, it's value
it gives you gifts, wants only gratitude for it
It's the most worthful matter
what you express that you appreciate and guard that chance to live with >
This passage is hard for me to follow. Let's take it one bit at a time. "that only one guarantee of reality" feels to me like it needs a verb. How does this work? "today is our one and only guarantee of reality." "it's value" seems like it's not connected with anything. "it's" is short for "it is" so I'm going to guess this line could mean "Spend it well, you, it has value" but I'm not too sure. I could also guess it could mean "Spend it well, you, its value" without the apostrophe in "its" which would come out better as "Spend its value well, you." English speakers for some reason have a terrible time getting "its" and "it's" correct. The apostrophe usually indicates something belonging to somebody, but when you want to say "belonging to it" you say "its" without the expected apostrophe, because "it's" means "it is," NOT "belonging to it." "Like belonging to them" is "theirs" not "their's." "Belonging to us" is "ours" not "our's." These are just special cases to memorize. On the other hand, "belonging to me" would be "Willy's" and not "Willys" because I can't handle the thought of there being more Willys; one is already almost too many. "worthful" is just not a word. Perhaps "valuable" is what you want here. That last line needs some work, too. How about this? "that you should express that you appreciate it and cherish the chance to live with it"

Only very small percentage > Only a very small percentage

rise oneself more to the hight > raise oneself more to the heights
There's also not one single period in this entire song. Please, help us out. Make things into sentences. It's very difficult trying to figure out where one idea ends and the next one begins.

teacher is that your last mistake > Just remove "that."

that you deservedly get > that you deserve to get

there is your treasure lying > there lies your treasure
This is a particular strong part of the song.

The only term is to do it today > "Term" doesn't seem like the right word here. Could any of these fit? requirement, imperative, necessity, need, obligation, smart thing, hope, goal, objective.

to be immediately a better person > to be a better person immediately
Or "right now" instead of "immediately."

hollow from inside > hollow inside

proud about their outside > proud of their outside

The one who steals today, wants to get away from it with yesterday > There is something really interesting here but the way you've said it doesn't quite sound like English. I'm having a hard time figuring out what would be good English, though. The part before the comma is fine, it's just the part after the comma that needs work. How about this? "wants to get away with it yesterday as well" "Get away with it" is an idiom for doing something you shouldn't but not being punished for it or suffering any bad consequences for it. Or maybe the idea is that if you steal today you want to get away from today by going back to yesterday. I'm really struggling with this.

The life is an empty jar > Life is an empty jar

fills it up with meanings > fills it up with meaning

I'm happy that nowadays era is is marked by significant awakening > The first part needs to be "I'm happy that nowadays is." No need for "era" at all, and one "is" is plenty. That part is easy. But the second part is more difficult. How about this? "people are waking up to _______" What are they waking up to? "Significant awakening" seems a bit formal, not to mention vague.

as a good example daily > as a good example every day
It's almost the same but it just seems more like what someone would say.

Let rise of consciousness takes on a global size > Let the rise of consciousness take on a global size
Also, a common turn of phrase in this context would be ". . . take on global proportions." But that seems a bit pompous.

coz the aim is my way > I'm not sure what this means. Also, "coz" is another one of those things like "gonna" and "wanna." You see it used often enough but it's not really a word. The word is "because." As long as you know this & you're doing it on purpose, I'll accept it.

seemingly worthful > seemingly worthwhile
I'm guessing. Again, "worthful" is not a word.

and changes the life > and changes life

some other day in a row > "In a row" means "in a sequence" or "consecutively." I think you're trying to say "some other day like any other" but I'm not sure.

I listened to the song. Seems like a happy little song; the tune puts a smile on your face. But that guy sure crams a lot of words into a little space. I'm fascinated that "s" is a word. I suppose that's no different from "I" and "a" in English. There's just no one-letter word in English that is a consonant.

That passage is hard to understand for me as well in Slovak

"that only one guarantee of reality" -> it's connected with the previous line -> "today IS the only quarantee of reality"

Same case with "it's value" -> today is value

Oh, well this is kinda harder sentence to translate, hmm let me try again .."it's the most valuable matter with which you can express that you appreciate and cherish the chance (possibility) to live" ... before I put "with" at the end of the sentence because there it should correctly stand in an english sentence, at least what I have learnt, but now I hope I made the meaning clearer for you...

Sorry :D when I was looking for the word "podmienka", I had reminded myself of the sentence "I have read and agree to these terms and conditions" XD I'll use "requirement" instead, then.

We both seem having trouble with "The one who steals today, wants to get away from it with yesterday" xD I would probably explain it like the person who steals today (and someone catchs them) says that yesterday they didn't steal (so there is no reason to punish them). I had to think of the meaning for very long time.

it's like... nowadays is carried in considerable awakening XD it's not still in a process,so I guess I can't use "people are waking up", they have already woken up to the new significant era.

Sorry, I got used to "gonna" "wanna" and "coz" and other shortcuts and slang words since I've learnt most of my English from chatting with native speakers and not a book :D

"The aim is my way" means just the "aim is my way" XD , I can't explain it in any other way, the same thing is written in Slovak lyrics..

Yeah right I meant "some other day like any other", but I used "in a row" because it's meant like another day that comes after yesterday, so yeah it is a sequence but if it doesn't look natural in English, I will change it.

I don't know where how I found that word "worthful", most likely it was created by myself XD

Well, I can say that this was relatively easy to transcribe, we have worse crammed songs xD "s" means "with"

THANKS that you can find the time to help me :3

It's the only day that matters,
We've got the power to spend only this day,
No other day is so important as today,
that only one guarantee of reality.
Spend it well, you, it's value,
it gives you gifts, wants only gratitude as a reward for them.
It's the most valuable matter
what you express that you appreciate and guard that chance to live with.

I'm going to try to just tackle this as a whole and see where it leads.

That one line "spend it well, you, etc." really doesn't need the repeated "you." There's similar sentence structures in French where a personal pronoun like "you" or "me" or "he" is repeated in French but you just don't construct sentences like that in English. I'm thinking this is a similar case.

The one who is hollow inside, is proud of their outside, > . . . proud of his outside
Political correctness has given rise to some of the most atrocious grammar. The first half of this line uses a singular noun and verb (one, is) but the second half is all mixed up with a singular verb (is) and a plural adjective (their). This is just bad grammar. If you really must be politically correct, change "their" to "his or her." For decades if not centuries, we wrote "his" and everybody understood that it was a catch-all to cover "everybody" including women. And then women's liberation came along and suddenly grammar ceased to be important. Well I'm not accepting the bad grammar. The other way of fixing this would be to make the first half of this line plural:
Those who are hollow inside, are proud of their outside,
And even that is pushing it because it should probably be "outsides." But I think it's better if everything is singular.

I'm still totally lost about the stealing yesterday and today thing. I'm not getting the idea. If you don't steal yesterday, that makes you innocent today even if you steal today? I'm still not following it and I wrote the words.

Liife > Life

Ah yes. Online chat. You can get away with a lot there that you really shouldn't try to use here. I have been finding that when I translate stuff from English to French, I don't know how to make the same grammatical errors in French. So I end up correcting the grammar when I make the translation. I think for now I would advise you to stay away from wanna, gonna, shoulda, woulda, coulda, coz, others like that.

the aim is my way
I am trying to imagine what could possibly be meant by this because the way it stands now doesn't mean anything. There is a concept that the goal at the end of a long struggle is not the important thing, but rather the struggle, the journey to get to the goal is what's important. Where you're going is not important, what's important is the voyage getting there. I don't know if this is the idea behind what is being said here.

Today isn't just some other day in a row, > Today isn't just another day like yesterday,
How does that work? You really can't say "in a row" like this in this context.

This is a lot of fun. This takes a lot of teamwork. You have one side of the picture and most of the other. I don't have your side of the picture but I'm trying to make sense of the picture you're showing me. I don't know that I'll learn any Slovakian from this, but it's fun anyway.

Thaaaaaanks! :p

I'm sorry I don't have the ability to explain it well, I have myself trouble with understanding it even though I'm native, well, I asked my friend who has brought this song to me, and she told me that they actually sing "chradne" instead of "kradne" :D so now it will look like "the one who languish today, wants to get away with it by yesterday", and it means (at least what she says) that someone is still dealing with his past and not thinking about the present, sorry, my mistake. Anyways I'll wait for you how you would work with it now, or I could add a footnote to explain it. And yeah right I guess you got that thing "the aim is my way", just my friend explained it like "the aim is your way, not any others' way, you are going to what you want till the end" I could use a footnote here as well to specify it. Now I feel like a dumb that I can't get the meanings myself.

I will use what you said, even I'm 100% sure they say "in a row", well this is English after all, not Slovak.

Okay I will try to avoid them :D only when the Slovak text is slang then I will use them also in the translation.

Oh, you have used "Slovakian" instead of "Slovak", did you know that I have been wondering for a veeery long time which one is the right from? I meet mostly with "Slovak", so I got used to that and I thought that "Slovakian" is just someone's figment, now I see I can use both. However, can I use them also for the language, person, adjective ?

I'm happy you find this funny! :)

Grampa Wild WillyGrampa Wild Willy    Vrij, 22/08/2014 - 22:36

Oh boy. I don't feel much like we're making a whole lot of progress. Let's give it another try.

For the first problem line:
If you're lazy today, it's as bad as living in the past because you aren't taking advantage of this most beautiful of days, today.

For the other problem line:
That's why the most beautiful day is today, because the goal is to do things your way.

Maybe you and your friend can get together and decide if this captures even a small part of what the song is trying to say.

Slovak, Slovakian . . . I don't think I ever noticed before whether I was saying one or the other. Thanks for pointing it out. Slovak it is. I have just erased Slovakian from my vocabulary. As for the contexts in which you would use the word, I think it works for all the cases you listed.

Fun vs funny. They mean different things, you know. I was saying this is fun, meaning I enjoy it. Funny means humorous, like jokes. We do make jokes, and since we are both brilliant people, our jokes are always hilariously funny. But what we do here, translating songs & discussing the finer points of what words mean, that is fun, enjoyable. Is that clear?
