Merci beaucoup pour vos efforts!!
I know they have crappy lyrics, and they are hard to translate. :D
Pinball ball (enhanced version)
- 1. makes no real sense, the only point is the aliteration between "baby doll", "idylle" and "idole"
- 2. "shaped like a ball", the whole convoluted metaphor is there to put another "ball" in the sentence
- 3. That's what I call an awkward metaphor...
- 4. the French is poorly written too. You can't read both lines as a whole, but they make no sense if you separate them
- 5. French uses "Castles in Spain" to talk about wishful thinking or fanciful plans. Why Spain has been changed for Ecuador here is beyond me
- 6. God strike me pink...

Because there aren't perfect songs, they either are catchy or meaningful (well written, with good metrics and whatnot); but most of the time they are just plain lame. Nonetheless is the best way to learn vocabulary (at least for me :) ).
petit élève a écrit :You can't use constructs like that in a casual conversation.
Sure i can! it'd just be funny :D
Some random person: tout va bien?
me: Voilier, si t'as pas de skipper, tu coules!
Some random person: (o.O)
But seriously, i have trouble remembering simple words and their meaning, and singing again and again makes my life easier.
When it comes about constructs, idioms, i reason as follows: If that phrase is inside several songs, meaning almost the same, then it must be valid! :D
I also watch subtitles movies, but i always forget almost everything, because i am not repeating all the time like a catchy song.
Besides i learnt english this way xD, i know my english is creepy; but it's functional and that's what matters to me :D
I think my algorithm it's like children learn their first language, it may not be grammatically perfect; but it works :)
Help..pour être neuve : to feel a fresh new girl..
Châteaux en Equateur:. because it's a lot farther than Spain, so, even more unreal..
Perhaps: all my fine castles in outer space ( farther than the sky, just like Ecuador is farther, more unreachable than Spain..).. maybe ?

Mmmm... frankly these lyrics were a pain to translate. Poorly written, full of weak puns and convoluted metaphors, they make precious little sense. Another minor hit typical of the mid-80's French pop mediocrity.
