"The Little Mermaid": Track 14 – We've Met Here (Second Prince's aria)
What have your eyes seen
For hundreds of years?
Pictures of love on earth,
And frigates’ traces?
The crystal castles of your dreams
Among blue waters,
The rows of colourful corals,
And mirror-like vaultings…
How could it be so,
That, one day,
We’ve met on the earth,
Where people consider
All the miracles
To be daily routines of their fields?
How could it be so,
That, one day,
We’ve met here, in spring,
At the century, when
Even dreams
Can no longer amaze us?
When you open the window again,
You seem to be just
An ordinary
Dreamy girl,
And it’s very hard to notice,
Even by looking attentively enough,
That each and every step of yours
Has already been calculated…
***
If you’re more clever
Than thousands of machines,
And more reliable than the concrete
Of antique walls,
Then why do you need our world
Of cheerless pictures?
What do you want to get
Back from us?
How could it be so,
That, one day,
We’ve met on the earth,
Where all the miracles
Have already been claimed
To be the objective reality of their fields?
How could it be so,
That, one day,
We’ve met here, in spring,
At the century, when
Even dreams
Can no longer amaze us?
The wind outside the window
Is touching your hair,
And it doesn’t know the answer,
It has no idea that,
In your big attentive eyes,
There are memories
Of hundreds
Of years…
