1. First of all, a big thanks for this site. I've met some interesting and talented people here and on the whole appreciate the high quality of work that is offered by the many translators. I originally came to this site because of the translated lyrics, but now also use it discover new artists that others find interesting.

2. I am wondering about the "Ranking" system. I've come across some translators listed as a "senior translator" or a "translation deity" and think, here must be a good and reliable translator. And then I look at the quality of their work and say Huh?! It appears that the ranking is only a gauge of the number of attempts they have made at translating songs, but it says nothing about the quality of their work.

(There is one translator whose translations are each listed two times--the first is dated in 2008 and the second in 2010, both identical--which obviously doubles the number of translations and raises this person's ranking.)

I think that it would be simpler if we just listed Administrator, Moderator, and Translator. Being a "translator" is a sufficiently high calling: we offer our translations to serve, help, instruct, and enable others to enjoy another language. Let's celebrate the community, not the heirarchy.

3. And finally, it drives me crazy when translators have the original language and the translated language mixed up in both columns...in some cases it has been so bad that I couldn't figure out what the original lyric text was. It would be good if we all exercised a little care in presenting our work.

I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Who is that? it'd be nice to let us know.

When this happens, why don't you point it out in comment? There's always a way to settle it.

Don't take it badly, but you're not at school here. You can post comments and kindly discuss with other users about their translations. Or - like even I do when I find a translation truly too horrendous - you can add your own translation and viewers will rate and judge the quality of your work :)

Hi, phillipj

Good point, this happens because the classification is based on points only. But here, the points has nothing to do with the quality of the work, but the contribution of a given user. And that does not imply on any kind of privilege in our community. In other hand, if one contributes to us, why not this one does not deserve this symbolic internal appreciation?

I hope this one is not me :). The case of several translations for a same song by the same user is not the user's fault but it's because some translations were imported from ATL.com's forum, to which LT was related, and many users had joined both sites and posted their translations also here and so it was almost impossible to control it. Well, this is not happening anymore. Indeed, we had had a discussion about it recently and that was settled to not continue.

I suppose one user has the plain right to submit the number of translation he thinks to be necessary. Of course, if one wants to post some better versions of the previous translation, one should simply edit it, but there are instances where lyrics have several interpretations that, to my understanding, deserves a multiple version. But if one wants to evaluate his progress while learning a language and wants to have both old and new versions, it seems there is not an apparent reason to forbid it.

This is also happened because of the importing period. Since the lyrics were imported from a forum, in which the general rule is to post a translated line in bold face, right below the original one. So, that's why some parts of such lyrics may be mixed. I apologize because it is really unpleasant, and we're working to correct this and the others inconveniences.

We have more than 30.000 translations available on a constantly increasing database and checking the accuracy of them is a very hard task, because the moderators have many other attributions and the priority turns out to focus the more recent data that has been submitted in order to control it.

So, we can only count on the user's help. Maybe one [report] button may be created to allow our users to report these and other kinds of flaws on lyrics. But this requires technical evaluation and may take time to be implemented.

So feel free to add you ideas whenever you want. I love this place and like to see who enjoys being here and cares for it. Discussions like this really makes our community grow and become much better. Best Regards.
