This will be a forum for users new and old alike pointers for the new, reminders for the veterans. To be covered here are things that are written and things that will hopefully clarify the unknown or that we have learned in our growth here to make contributing as user friendly as we all can. Please begin every entry with a brief title for ease in reference. Try to avoid comments here in excess to allow for ease in navigating. (If I get something wrong or you think of something that needs addressed or included send me a PM. I will add it to these entries.)

Abbreviations:

Admin. - Administrators (It)

Avoiding duplicate entries and being unpublished:

For original song postings, translations, and transcriptions always look up in the search menu at the top of the page at least these;
1. The song in its original text (Latin, Cyrillic, Kanji, etc.)
2. Then look it up in Latin text if it is in any other text/script
3. Then look up the artist the same way.

Always do this. It is no fun unpublishing someone's work because this simple step was not done. It is nice to help out another user by transcribing or translating for them, but you must always be thorough to avoid surprises.
Be aware that certain classes of songs such as national anthems, religious songs, etc. have their 'artist' labeled as such. Read "Getting Started" topics at the top of the page for some examples.

There are some less avoidable pitfalls. The entries of titles and artists on YouTube are often wrong. Check other videos on YouTube. If the singer's voice is the same of different then keep that in mind on making decisions. This effects original postings. If you are in doubt ask here. Use your peer resources.
*Do not use GT as a cheater translator or plagiarizations from different sites. It is against site rules. It can be unpublished and a user blocked/banned.
Many users put a lot of time into their work. Efforts that will outlive them and paint a positive picture of them beyond their years. Give everyone the ability to take pride in their work and this site.

Video problems:

Unfortunately due to copyright laws, commission rights and other regulations some videos will be unavailable to users in other countries. The YouTube entry may be revoked after lyrics are posted here. These are unforeseeable problems for a user when posting lyrics. It is very important to post quality material some artists and others are very particular about things. That's why quality is so important. I have found that if a video, sometimes the only video available stops working then check this;
Click/tap on the YouTube logo at the bottom of the small video screen and bring up the original video link. If it works there for you (the original posting user) then copy the link and post it in the submitter's comments. It will still work if opened and will make watching/listening to the video still possible while looking at the lyrics. If it doesn't work then things like transcription requests will not work out.
Do not be surprised to see your lyrics appear on YouTube. That is a fact of life here. Look at it as contributing to humanity. Consider we use someone else's video.
Please take the time to post videos. If they absent that posting will be scrutinized for accuracy and completeness. Keep in mind that an inaccurate and/or incomplete original entry will effect all subsequent translations. Everyone will be effected.

Ratings/Voting - Stars:

This is currently a very subjective area. Let's review some objective thinking and pertinent facts.

1. Artists exercise poetic license in their lyrics. So do users as well. Keep in mind some factors in an artist/writer creating lyrics; education, style, foreign language equivalency, experience, censorship, etc.. Many variables. They need to be conveyed in a translation to reflect the artist's intention. So translations are not mechanical.
*Did the user convey the meaning of the artist fully?
2. Language conversion syntax; Simply put is translating one or more languages from the original language/text. Word for word conversions are useless and do not make sense. Some languages are structured to convey ideas by phrasing and single word translation is then impossible.
*Did the translator's work content make sense? Could a native speaker understand it well? Could a foreign speaker understand it well?
3. Grammar, punctuation, form and function; The translations should mirror the original lyrics in structure, same couplets/stanzas same spacing and entitlements (Refrain, Chorus, spoken parts). The grammar and idioms should reflect and communicate the same. Rap lyrics are often not within the scope of current proper standards of a given language. Are slang words like 'cuz' in English in a translation or any translation used when the original work was a completely different context like Lermontov, or Shakespeare.
*Does the translator's work reflect the form, the function, the cultural, and time (era, and its rules of language) of the original work accurately.
*Did the translator use the correct style of language? From proper to proper, or slang to slang?
4. Obscenity - If it's not in the original lyrics then it shouldn't be in translations. Site rules. Arbitrary obscenities do not enrich translations. This includes vulgarities that extend beyond the original lyrics. Today's explicit lyrics were not the norm in older ones.
*Did the user translate the work accurately, with discretion, and within the norms of that particular time and culture?
5. Submitter's Comments; Particulars that are not commonly known or allusions to ideas, words, phrases that may unknown to other cultures and variables such as age, experience, culture, etc.. Links for other resources. Was credit given to submitted other sources in the appropriate block?
*Did the user realize and explain possible problem terms, ideas that would be unknown to others, a casual viewer or another language translator?

Subjective things that effect ratings:
Ratings should not be based on particulars of friendship, nationality, reciprocation, etc.. This defeats their intended purpose and often users who should be recognized, aren't.
1. Never rate someone based on how you 'would have' done it. If you didn't do it and they did, afford them the sovereignty of their work. Meaning if suggestions are made the translator is, at their own discretion able to amend/incorporate them.
2. Low ratings; If you rate someone as a 1-3 star rating there needs to be corresponding examples, suggestions of what 'could be' done. Please post them in a way that you would want them to be presented to you. No hostile terms, no judgmental deductions. Give the user time to react to your comments. If the user adjusts their translation as a result then your rating should also be changed. If follow-up, or further mediation is required that then is the realm of editors and moderators. Be prepared to explain if needed.

Comments:
Post New Comment:

There is a Comments block at the bottom of each lyrics/translation page. This is to give the translator, or the original song/poem poster input. This means both constructive and critical. Critical often takes a front seat, however don't forget "Atta boys!" (compliments). Everyone does everything here of their own initiative for a myriad of reasons. There are no paydays.
This site encompasses the whole world and should break all geographic and cultural barriers. The bottom line is we are all humans with feelings that need to always be regarded. The golden rule is enforced here. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
With that being said...
Every users role here to assist and cooperate as a team, a community to create lines of communication that will open the channels of understanding in the world. To do this we assist one another by interjecting suggests if needed or requested in a constructive manner that will assist in refining a translation. So the translator must keep in mind that these suggestions and commentary are benevolent and not posted in malice. That means a hostile response is inappropriate even if someone commenting is in error by conduct or by their request. Don't 'switch up' languages (change in hope that it will be undetected).
The appropriate way to resolve that is to;
a. take time to sit back and consider letting pride or angry thoughts fall away, if you need time - take it.
b. engage them in conversation in collected thoughts and actions
c. if things cannot be resolved or tempers flare then ask for a moderator to intervene. Do not let things escalate to the point where you or others require interventions from those in authority here. No one wants that.
If a moderator intervenes because of such comments need to be ceased. A moderator has the discretion to remove comments and commenters.

*The comments section is for constructive suggestions, ratings of a translator's work. All of the comments should pertain to the lyrics and/or the translator. Avoid verbal dueling, tangents (which are often good forum topics) and extensive socialization (forum for general discussion). Comment become overwhelming and take away from the primary reason for the page entry - the song. Don't be discourteous. There is nothing wrong with talking to each other in confidentiality in a PM. One-on-one contact is a good learning tool that applies throughout life. There are many life-learning opportunities here that will benefit anyone.

Editors, Moderators, and Administrators:

We are your resource for information and action. We do not 'pick on' anyone. There are basic daily activities required here to make this site function and to keep the peace. There is a multitude of experience and knowledge here at your fingertips. We are here to manage and effectively continue operations here. That sometimes requires editing, unpublishing, additions, and counseling. There are no particular persons that are effected (unless their work is in need). That then is the responsibility of that person to conform to the standards, the norm of the site and its users. If standards are kept high then users feel and have pride in their work. If everything is a shambles then no one cares and everything fades in oblivion. So everyone has a role. Those roles must be respected and those roles require interactions to accomplish our team goals and our individual goals.
If you have a question, a concern, in need of assistance utilize your resources. All editors and the moderators come from different backgrounds and all have specialties to 'bring to the table'. There are many benefits here that can be given as compensation for your time; communication skills, socialization skills, maintaining proficiency, improving proficiency, improving writing skills and team building, extending your friendship barriers and learning and appreciating other cultures and people. All possible, all more valuable than points, ratings, or badges.
If at any time you feel that you have a concern use your chain of command. Editors and moderators are your first line in your chain of command. If you cannot find a resolution after going to them then Admin would be the next link in your chain. Admin can be reached in the selections at the bottom of your page "Contact Us". Both in civil and military organizations the chain of command is there to ensure the mission/operations are fulfilled, effective, and efficient. It is bad form and a detriment to 'jump' it, or to 'go over someone's head' without given them the opportunity to resolve it or to communicate it in its entirety. An editor or a moderator may have a better view of 'the big picture'. If a user cannot communicate with another user due to personality issues then use a moderator.

Job duties and criteria for each:

Editors:
They have the authority to edit original lyrics, videos, and most of the entries involved with the original song/poem submission. They also can edit artist's pages and have their own channels of communication with one another, with moderators and Administrators. They can make suggestions and add input in decisions with moderators and/or Admin.. A user's original entry will have 'Last edited by' below their 'Submitted by' user information bellow the lyrics. Editors do not edit 'Comments' below the lyrics unless they are their own. Editors and moderators maintain routine open channels of communication. Editors do not unpublish postings or spam and do not block or ban users.
A user must be a contributing member to be an editor and grow to become more knowledgeable of the site and its users prior to becoming a moderator. Editors are recommended and approved or denied. They must be thorough, knowledgeable, a team player, and have good people skills.

Moderators:
They have the authority to make changes in all lyrics, in most all of the lyric/poem fields, in forums and daily requirements as they occur. They can merge songs, unpublish them, edit them as required. They can edit and unpublish, close, or hide comments from public view. They do not delete ratings but can recommend it. They have some abilities to edit idioms.
A user must be an editor prior to becoming a moderator. A moderator must have good people skills, be a team player, be very knowledgeable of languages, operating procedures here, and have objective decision making capabilities. Moderators are recommended and approved or denied. Moderators deal with spammers (unpublish and ban them). Moderators have the option to ban users. To avoid problems be familiar with site rules. They will inform users of tasks requiring Admin. interventions to complete.

Administrators (It)
They have authority to change and make alterations to improve the site and procedures at will. It is their responsibility to conduct and maintain the daily operations of the site and monitor its activities. They are the last word in decision making here. If a problem cannot be handled by the editors and moderators then a user can go through them. Administrators can be contacted if resolutions cannot be reached, or if directed by moderator to do so. Editors and moderators must be approved or denied prior to assuming their positions by Administration. They can resolve issues that may develop in the user - editor - moderator links should the need arise.

Requesting Transcriptions, Translations:

The difference;
A transcription is a word-for-word dictation/documentation of the words of a source. Here a video or sound file. It requires listening and then typing the words and vocalizations of a singer/speaker.
A translation is changing the words into another language and/or text other than that of the original singer/speaker in this arena.

So it's important to request the right one. Questions? Ask an editor or moderator.
Your responsibility to give the maximum amount of aid and tools for another user to assist you. That means take the time to find a video, a sound file that can assist in a transcription/translation. Whatever tools are available take the time to post them in the request. There is nothing wrong with writing lyrics you know with ??? where you are lost in the submitter's block. Sometimes two sets of ears is better than one.

One factor not considered is this. Some singers are inaudible due to a host of reasons in videos. Sometimes if a requestor finds a video or video link where the singer actually faces the screen there are those of us who have hearing impairments who can read their lips and come up with the most achievable results.

*Those who contribute translations and assistance to others are more prone to have requests filled. Teamwork.

User Recognition:

There are several forms of user recognition here and they are;
1. Points
2. Badges
3. Thanks (below each posting and both users and visitors can do)
4. Rating/Voting (those stars only site users can do)
5. Comments (as recognition)
6. Leadership Roles

If you read the available site resources, the 'Getting Started' bar at the top of the page it will explain the point system here.
a. Points are given for contributions to the site and are of different values for each type prescribed.
b. Badges are given for major contributions in different areas (top phrase, explainer, commenter, etc.). They appear as medals/decorations on your user profile page. They are of different colours and a periodically given by Administration.
c. Thanks are given by both users and visitors and can be given to both original lyrics postings and to translations/transliterations of each lyrical page. They express appreciation by anyone for their contribution here.
d. Ratings/Voting; 1-5 stars. They are given as an evaluation of a translator's work only by site users. Read "Ratings/Voting - Stars:" for further details. Votes below 4-5 require subsequent comments to substantiate ratings of 1-3.
e. Comments (as recognition): Write comments in the 'Comments' block at the bottom of a lyric page that reflect a job well done. This can be done with thanks or with ratings. (There is another entry in this forum for details on other commentary).
f. Leadership Roles: Earned through good quality contributions, good people skills, expertise in specific language areas, making the wheels of daily operations here turn smoothly.

Cyber Security:
Viruses/Spam/Spyware/Hackers and Prevention
Computers/Phones/Tablets - Electronic devices

In today's world there are many obstacles and hazards to avoid in the cyber community (the internet). There are several ways to make that very difficult for others to effect you as a user here or anywhere else. Simple things that are often overlooked or unknown.

1.Password protection - Your password here or anywhere should be at least eight characters long. It should have symbols (!@#%&*), Capital letters/text small text and numbers (1,2.etc.). If it does not you have a greater chance of making it easy to break. Never use your user name.
2. Virus/Spyware - If your computer/electronic device does not have it, or you don't know if it does. Find out. Many sites, links, etc., are loaded with it and just waiting to download and infect your device.
3. Idle devices are easy devices. Don't leave your device on for extended periods of time or unattended. Don't leave it in 'Hibernate' or 'Sleep' mode while you are doing the same or engaging in other activities. Many virus/Spyware programs have the ability to detect idle times and will run when it occurs. Many have options for routine system checks available . Always logout/logoff of sites. When your day is done, your work is complete shut the device off. Do not let it hibernate or sleep. Easy way to check, if you touch/tap/click/hit the space bar and it activates, it didn't shut off. Don't arbitrarily 'Restart' your device. If you do you may download programs/files that could be harmful to your device. If you don't know about 'Restart' and update procedures ask reputable sources. Restarts are often required for legitimate updates. Know the difference.
4. A hacker is someone/thing that works the weakness of your device system and your inattentiveness to obtain or destroy your information/files/device for their manipulation and gain. If you maintain steps 1-3 you will make the life of a hacker much more difficult. Unfortunately this occurs too often. Don't be complacent. If you are working and the computer is idle, run scans.

Counseling, unpublishing, blocking, banning:

These are all tools to affect different changes in a user's conduct and behavior. They do not have to all be considered in a negative context. This needs to be said. Many organizations and groups operate in a highly competitive and often punitive manner. This isn't there. Do not live in constant fear of being banned without warning or justifiable cause. If you make mistakes you will get assistance, often whether you request it or not. Do not look disfavourably on it. This is a group effort, if your used to working alone then there is an opportunity to learn cooperation. This is all everyday communications that any good group maintains.
1. Counseling: This indicates that you are communicating with a member in your chain-of-command (editor, moderator, admin.). It can be informal, a PM, Comments, even Chat. It is an intervention to assist you in improving and mentoring your strengths and weaknesses here, and will assist you in the real world.
2. Unpublishing: Unfortunately due to user oversights or information inaccuracies intended or not this happens. If duplicates occur, if published lyrics are incomplete, or erred in another manner (wrong language, etc.). This is sometimes preventable and sometimes incidental. If you are advised to look over your translation after it has been posted then you need to do so. Remember inaccurate or incomplete lyrics can cause unpublishing. Trolls that register just to leave bad comments will be unpublished.
Plagiarism, GT, and complacency. These merit unpublishing. As prescribed by site rules that are available in the 'Getting Started' menu bar these are not tolerated. If a user finds translations on other web sites then the user should cite the 'Translation Source'. Google Translate has only one use, to check your spelling or a particular thing that you already know or need to reaffirm as an already proficient translator of that particular language. It does not reflect the cadence of a native speaker or of that language. Don't copy and paste it and change a few words. Be thorough and conscientious.
Complacency, be conscientious in your work, do it with a sense of leaving something of quality for others beyond your time. Don't let acquiring points and other personal competitions cloud your vision.
3. Blocking is an instrument of awakening. It is used to emphasize the need for a user to make an immediate change in attitudes of site rules, interventions with others, and those things that are a detriment to operations here.
4. Banning, the final step. At this point there is no further intervention with the user. This is not an everyday action. But it is the final option for those who break the site rules. This step is easily preventable for those who contribute, who are team players, who respect each other, who abide by site rules.

Factors that are considered in actions undertaken;
a. overall quality of work and past interventions pertaining to it.
b. cumulative comments made by the user
c. cumulative feedback from others
d. communications with editors, moderators, admin.
e. previous actions taken on serious events.
f. user attitude toward effecting change in themselves and/or their work
g. changes being made expeditiously, or as discussed to correct addressed areas of concern

For the average user here these actions should never be a problem. The leadership here is fair, vigilant, and self-policing.

Chats:

Chats are available.
1.The icon is visible by running the mouse pointer down to the right lower corner of the screen. 'Chat (#)' will appear, the number of users active appears.
2. Tap/click on the icon and the chat box will appear. Your user icon/avatar and ID is at the top. If you tap/clack on the little computer or gear icon you will see different options as to your availability on chat, sound and dash.
a. Editors' Room (a chat specific to editor's traffic)
b. Moderators' Room (a chat specific to moderators)
c. Public Room (as is indicated, available to all users, and multilingual)
d. Available users (chat boxes for each user on line)

Chat rooms are an avenue of communication to access direct intervention with other users for just casual conversation or to seek help in real time.
Assets: It's possible to speak to other users in different languages and to maintain proficiency by doing so. Real time questions and answers. Casual conversation and friendships.
Limitations; Sometimes there are users who do not speak more commonly used languages, it is sometimes difficult for people to gain full context of a conversation that might be easier to comprehend in a PM (site email). Many people do not use or monitor chat even when on the site. Use PM's as your primary contact means if you want to ensure replies. If you stay on-line on and select a screen the chat box will remain on your screen until you close it.
If you select off-line from the little computer/gear icons the chat room box will disappear as long as you don't use your pointer in the right lower corner of your screen. It will not open up again until you tap/click on it again.

Personal Poetry:

Personal poetry is allowed to published on this site provided it falls within the bounds of website rules. If you post it do your homework first and check your user ID or whatever ID you use against those already here. Go to the top of the page and in the Search bar look for alike entries. If it is the same as another artist's ID then you may need to use your 'ID - (your country)' as the artist.
Peronal poetry is a 'sanctum sanctorum' here. Do not post critical comments on their pages. This must be done with discretion. Send a PM. Typos and things like that may be addressed. Punctuation is not in rules of granite. This is to allow the reader more freedom of interpretation. These are the shared feelings common to humanity and are expressed in personal ways. Respect them. What may not be apparent in youth may be obvious in old age and vice versa. Good poetry is written so that ten different people can see ten different meanings in them depending on the stage or and experience in the reader's life. That means good poets recognize that and abide with variations in translation interpretation. Translations should convey the structure and the nuances of the poet's meaning. Poetry in other languages will help users to better understand and translate lyrics. Their topics are common. Lyrics are just sung poetry. Poems are the communion of heart and mind, they are the children of life's transforming embrace.

Forums:

They are open group discussions of common interest or topics that may need to be discussed for changes to be considered. The way to start one is to go to the top, left side of your page and run your mouse pointer over the 'Actions' menu bar. The pull-down menu will then give you a selection. Choose 'Start forum thread'. Forums can be everything from jokes, to holiday sharing, to how to do things or share tips for work here. Topics that are particular to this site or are not what you may not wanted shared beyond LT should be 'Members Only'. There are many selections for those who will view them. They are just below the 'Forum' selection bar toward the pages bottom left side.
Spammers register as users and post their advertisement and other information with links in forums. Do not open these links if you suspect or know them to be spammers. Report them to the editors or moderators. The moderators will unpublish and ban them.
An important forum link here is;
Reporting mistakes [Lyrics/title/song/album/etc.]
https://lyricstranslate.com/en/forum/incorrect-information-lyricstitleso...
Any user can give input. This is a forum for reporting, not opinions. Be succinct. Who, what, where, when, and how.
Always provide links to any source that you cite at any time in communications. If you are not familiar with how to do it;
1. Find the source you wish to cite, to post in your communication
2. Go to the top of the page your want and highlight the browser bar/the web address and click/tap on it. It will change colour
3. Left or right click/tap on your mouse (pad) and look for the device pull-down menu that has (Cut, Copy, Paste, etc).
4. Tap/click on 'Copy'.
5. Go to the page where you want to add that link and make sure your cursor (the blinking vertical line where you type is in the right location on the page.
6. Left or right click/tap on your mouse (pad) and open the device pull-down menu and select 'Paste'. Your link will appear on the page. You will be good to go then. You can post multiple links if necessary. Look at other user's entries to gain some insight further.

*Forums are not for requesting translations or translations. Those are specifically requested by going to the top, left side of your page and running the mouse pointer over the "Actions" menu bar. it will open a pull-down item selection that you may choose from. Developing friendly communications is tantamount here. If you have an outstanding request then you may need to call on them to assist you in their completion. That is one reason why cooperation is so important.

Outside agencies or persons recruiting or seeking services:

Be aware that there are those out there who will seek 'something for nothing'. If you are beginning your career or are looking to use this route as a way to your professional achievement then be aware of those seeking your services beyond here.
They see your translations and then may register here and seek your services via PM or other means to their gain.
Some things to be mindful of:
* What are you looking for out of the deal? Revenue, recognition, good faith contribution? Your name in small letter in a pamphlet somewhere.
* Some are very articulate, others are not. if their educational level doesn't make sense...???
* They are new to the site and have contributed nothing...???
* No one knows them or they are too aloof...???
* They are requesting a language that you don't know. They are speaking a language that doesn't correspond with their address, details given, or language to be translated....???
* All information they give you needs to be checked out. Don't take anything for granted. Do not check things out by internet only. Phone calls. Physical address, etc.. If you don't have, or don't know how to use the resources to check, ask. Check even those who represent themselves as nonprofit.
* Real business people don't play. They know what they can afford. they know what they will spend. They will insist on a contract. They will give you all information and contacts to verify them and to verify you. Never send personal information or resumés without completely investigating an unknown source.
* Ask for a written contract no matter what. This eliminates any misunderstandings. "Write it, regret it. Say it, forget it". This applies to a gratis or a monetary transaction. If you strike (agree on) a contract deal make sure percentage commission is there. Do your homework.
* Articulate/inarticulate posers may cite a firm, a businessman address in a metropolitan city or otherwise to embellish themselves. A good example might be posing as a lawyer in a large firm in New York for Broadway. A lawyer in the USA would be a member of The Bar Association which is publically available. If their name does not appear...??? If they give you a phone number call them on purpose after hours. See if a answering service is there and if it gives you insight. Call during their business day and see what occurs. Check their physical address. Have them send you correspondence in the regular postal system. Check the location cancellation stamp on the envelope. Does it correspond? If it's a prepaid envelope (which out of countries shouldn't be) then have them send you a non-prepaid letter. Talk to receptionists and listen closely to the background noise. Be objective and vigilant. There are many pointers to be safe.

Since the welfare of users here is a primary concern don't be afraid to ask questions. The information in this entry can drastically effect your life. Don't be blinded by empty promises or unfound glory. Business is business. If your translations ends up in a CD/DVD jacket that sells a million plus copies a small commission per item adds up. Legitimate businessmen will enter into contracts. No one likes to be sued for plagiarism and unauthorized use. If they want money from you...forget about it. Report them.

Translations/Translating as an occupation:
Here at LT that is an important incentive for quality work. Should the day come when you may want or be requested to show your work to an employer you may want to use this site as a reference to your work. Your prospective employer/organization may look on the web for you and find that you are here. They may very well read your comments and feedback to get an idea of how you relate to others. Being multilingual is not an asset to a person who cannot be a team player. Many high ranking executives are bi/multilingual and are aware of sites like this one.
It is rare today for translator to be a full time position. Some firms that require full time translation/transcription are available but this is a limited field. That work is often mundane and may not involve human interventions. They may employ you primarily in other ways to maximize profit margin. Do not be disillusioned, businesses must be efficient to survive.
Commonly teaching is a major occupational field for full time translating/teaching of languages. Many areas cannot afford to pay full time teachers for specific languages today. This is true outside of teaching as well.
Do not neglect your specific fields of endeavor. Your vocation/occupation like; (engineering, medicine, architecture, skilled trades, etc.) may be more apt to employ you with language capability as a 'frosting on the cake' (an added benefit above the basic requirements there).
Employment that is linked to language capabilities often mandates travel. If you are married, have children, or do not wish to travel then you may wish to think over priorities prior to seeking a situation. If you love world travel this may be an avenue to accomplish that.
It is important to understand that different regions of the world have different assets/liabilities that must be considered. There are users here that are very 'well seasoned' and can give you realistic input.
Translating as a second job, a side-line is a very common source of alternate income. You must know the terminology specific to that are you are translating. Do you homework. Have a very good overview of the principles and operations you will translate for. Have and/or work on your people skills. Know cultural information, and all aspects of the people and the firm of the entity that is foreign to your area. Have a working knowledge of dialects.
Do not use slang, vulgarities, obscenities when translating for firms. Be professional at all times. Learning such things early often results in embarrassing situations. Concentrate your conduct, studies and translations on the proper etiquette of a language. That is expected in business. People develop stereotypes by bad conduct of people of other nations. Avoid creating or reinforcing them. Anytime human intervention takes place there is the possibility of misunderstanding. Minimize the possibilities by maintain good habits everyday in all interactions.

Idioms:

Idioms here are explained by the 'Getting Started' menu bar at the top of the page. When you run the mouse pointer (arrow) over the bar the pull-down menu it will reveal 'Frequently asked questions'. Tap on it and become familiar with idiom procedures.

There are a multitude of sites that have idioms as their main topic or as a added feature of a related theme.
Unfortunately many are wrong or are alterations of the original idiom of a specific language. Many are actually idioms that are specific to a country or region are posted in foreign languages. This causes problems with accuracy, familiarity and utility for the researchers. This is a very common problem. It is very important to have a working reliable knowledge of the language and culture that you may be posting an idiom on behalf of. There are several sites that translate idioms in their mother tongue and present them in their language and its syntax and label from another country. The problem with that is that natives of that country have no idea what those idioms are and often they make no sense in either the language of origin or the target language.
* Do not import songs and idioms in languages/cultures that you do not have a proficiency in. If an idiom is specific to a language but outside of its country of origin then explain it. Displaced peoples often create their own subculture and specifics.
* Do not create idioms to accommodate your translations to your translated language. If it's not a part of that culture then it shouldn't be made so. This only causes confusion and has no use. Bad translations do not equal good idioms posted.
* Post legitimate idioms with explanations that are of enough length to explain that idioms and at least one example of its use. Three word explanations are insufficient. Both a native speaker and a nonnative speaker should be able to understand it.
* Explain terminology that is specific to a specific culture. Avoid other idioms in explanations as the only means of explanation. Don't use the same words in the explanation as the idiom to explain it. Try to use words that can be found easily in dictionaries.
* At the bottom of idiom pages specific to an idiom are often lyrics of songs with that idiom in it, highlighted. Try to address they varied meanings if they apply.
* Try to give a figurative meaning (the idiomatic one), and a literal meaning if it applies to avoid confusion in lyrics. Often a translator may be limited in their knowledge of the language. This would help them to understand the word/words, the expression in its context.
* Don't create, divide up borrowed meanings from other site to acquire points/badges. That invites unpublishing, confuses other users, and has no utility (no usefulness) to anyone.
* Post an idiom in its original language. Do not post it as a separate it and repost in another language in another entry. Another explanation of the idiom that is posted in the language you choose to explain it in would be appropriate.
* Often neglected, but necessary, explanations of idioms in their native tongue. Idioms change and fade with time but their references may not vanish.
* Take the time to add idiom equivalents to an existing idiom. Creating for other reasons limits the use of these entries. Accuracy is important. An idiom posted out of context or incomplete, incorrect, explanation in error will snowball (build up further) and cause more and more confusion and inaccuracies.
* If another user comments on an idiom/explanation you provided try to amend it and refine it to meet the needs of your peers. Don't contribute to the unreliable content of the internet.

Reliable idioms and their meaning variances are an essential useful tool for others of this site and throughout the internet. The quality of them should reflect the linguistic capability of proficient translators conscious of their functionality. The quality and reliability here should be exceptional. Remember visitors may be very limited in their understanding of languages, including their own.

Source reliability:

The internet verses texts/books.
The internet is an unregulated collection of ideas, and information. However it is often erroneous or just outright wrong. Do not base your translations, original lyrics or any other form of research there alone. Serious researchers spend time in the field, in libraries, and with their personal collection of data and books/dictionaries. If you unable to afford these then libraries and personal intervention with natives, if possible of the specific countries may have to suffice. There are many non-English sites and English/Other sites out there. Be very careful being on these sites and those with sound files. They sometimes contain virus/spyware.

Some sources out there.
1. Mechanical translators:
Those such as GT (Google Translate, Bing Translate) are limited by their input, the reliability of that input, the limitations of available languages and the filters/interpretations of the human mind. They are prohibited on this site. There are large regions of the earth without coverage as well.
2. Dictionaries, phrasebooks, and other printed resources:
They are generally much more reliable. The minimal printing number is 10,000 copies for many publishers. If they don't sell the author gets to keep them (and their cost). This means that they will be well researched, very useful, and will often include exceptions or examples to aid in understanding. If you are a researcher/writer making a living so you will be ever vigilant for accuracy.
Quality texts/printed resources can be purchased used at great savings. Check them and their reviews. Some specialized ones are very expensive and very rare. Knowing several languages increases your ability to be flexible. They may be printed in languages nonindigenous/foreign to your country. They do become dated with time but so then might be your desired translation sources. Countries may change their texts or language structures. When they do it may make older translations very difficult without older texts.
3. Published poetry and songbooks:
These generally are very reliable or have the ability to be useful tools to accomplish your mission. Remember to give them their credit due.
4. Artists, Official Sites;
These sites can afford a user somewhat reliable sources to cross check your work. Remember that videos made and posted may often be different in their lyrics than those that are 'official'. Try to stay with the video lyrics. Some artists are very inconsistent in their performance lyrics and their enunciations.
5. Wikipedia and Wiktionary:
They are both resources that are available however they do not replace good/thorough research. Wikipedia is meant for 'casual reading'. It is not the definitive source for all references. If you read the same topic in different languages available you will see quite a difference in coverage. There are times when it is wrong or incomplete. Wiktionary has a usefulness but it does not replace an individual's acquired proficiency. You must be able to differentiate its brief entries with your own deductive/inductive reasoning for it to be useful. Some of the only truly accurate lyrics are here on this site alone.
6. YouTube entries, titles, artists. posted lyrics, screen lyrics:
The information may be entered by persons who have no knowledge at all of the language they are posting nor any other data they enter. The lyrics they post may be 'borrowed' from a source that is not capable of providing correct and complete information. If you lift/copy those lyrics you may be propagating the errors and omissions they created. Just because the lyrics may be posted there does not in any way mean they are correct. Native speakers spot this immediately. Don't add to the unreliability of the internet. They need to be cited in the 'Translation Source' box of translations if they come from there.
7. Band camp:
These lyrics are often terse, incomplete, or very wrong. Often the artist has nothing to do with their posting. They may be posted by someone who found them elsewhere. Sometimes they are posted by nonnative, improficient speakers with limited educations and backgrounds.
8. Native speakers:
There are many differences in reliability; education, interests, emigration, immigration, regions, dialect, memory, etc.. Use discretion as well when using sources per se (in person). They can be helpful. Do not eliminate them as a source.

When communicating with other sources keep in mind and be ready to deal with the fact that they may not 'have a command' (be proficient enough) to communicate to you or about the lyrics they sung or wrote to have any useful quality. Even the best interpreter/translator at times will be unable to extract useful information to find a solution. If your original source doesn't know, you won't know.
