The Almond Trees
January 23:
Today, for the first, sweet time,
I was surprised by the whiteness of the almond trees
poking their heads out above the shelter
of the Capuchin nuns' white orchard:
they looked surprised to find themselves so covered in flowers
all alone in the mist
February 6:
Today, they looked brave
and seemed to sing
facing all the winds
and snow that the winds were bringing.
Under the imminent snow
they sang for joy
for having flowered in innocence
before their time:
from the bottom of the coming days
tearfully, Spring blessed them.
February 15:
Today, snow fell on the flowers
and on the things of Spring:
a white morning that the Sun melted.
At midday, reddish buds
poked their flowery heads out in the snow
the almond trees gave thanks to God
shaking their pink vestments

This song is a poem (or maybe several poems) by Joan Maragall, published in Fulls de dietari (1901), put to music.
I generally followed the punctuation in the transcription, but as far as I can tell, there is a misplaced colon in the last verse. The third-to-last line should end in a colon, not the fourth-to-last line. At least, that is how the poem is written in other sources.
