I have been to Hungary. Thank you, I feel like this avatar represents me because I'm Jewish. I come from Switzerland.
Well I hope you enjoyed your stay here in Hungary. Sorry to say I haven't been to Switzerland so far. As far as I know I also must have strong links to the Jewish people through my parents.
Yes, I liked Hungary, though I didn't stay for long. If you ever visit Switzerland, you might like it if you go to Geneva or Zürich. The part I live in nothing special. I think that there is a lot of Jewish history in Hungary because of Hungary's former connection to Austria, but I could be wrong.
Well the Austrian link might be one of the reasons but there were others as well. In past centuries, foreigners were welcome to Hungary to enrich it in historical, economic, cultural, etc. viewpoints. As for our days, times and habits have changed a bit...
The Austrian history of Jews was very short-lived but I thought they remained in Hungary for a while after they began experiencing problems within Austria. I don't think Switzerland has really had an extensive Jewish history, though. I like it when countries let a lot of foreigners in to kind-of shape the culture. I think in some cases, it can really help the countries out. Switzerland has always been relatively diverse, as far as I know.
Well as to Hungarians' liberalism to foreigners I would phrase it something like "used to be positive". As I've mentioned, times and habits have changed and I'm not proud of that...

Well I think that has to do with a kind of feeling guilty... As from 1944, practically the entire Hungarian Jewish population (except for in Budapest) were deported to Konzlagers and the majority killed then. That means as much as over half a million people! Hungarian authorities did fully cooperate as far as "logistics" were concerned.
I think the Jews faced a similar problem with Austria, and of course, an even bigger one in Germany.

At least not in the last 2000 or 3000 years...
We've basically suffered persecution from everywhere we've lived since the beginning.
