I Ei Havn

Det er ikke så lett når all ting går i mot
Og jeg blir så redd, når følelser blir rot
Det var så mye jeg skulle ha sagt og gjort
Men du følte at ting gikk alt for fort

I ei havn, i ei havn.

Du seiler av sted og jeg ekke med.
Jeg kunne ikke se at det skulle skje.
Og hvis du vil komme i lang,
så står jeg å venter i ei havn.
I ei havn.

Jeg ekke så lett når ting går imot,
og jeg blir så redd når alt er rot.
Og hvis du vil komme i lang,
så står jeg å venter i ei havn.
Så står jeg å venter i ei havn.
... Så står jeg å venter i ei havn.

In A Harbor

It's not so easy when everything goes against you
And I get so scared, when emotions get messed up
There's so much I should have said and done
But you felt that things were going all too fast
I can not help it that I'm so fond of you

I stand and watch, as you sail away
And I'm not allowed to come along
And if your mind is set on reaching your destination
and moor the boat safely ashore,
then I will be waiting for you in a harbor.

It was so good, the time that we had,
we've kissed and laughed, always thinking of each other
I believed in everything you did and said,
but was contemplating at how wrong can one be.
And yet, I still love you

I stand and watch, as you sail away
And I can't be with you
And if you decide you want to come back,
and moor the boat safely ashore,
then I will be waiting for you in a harbor.

I remember that sweet smile,
that set all hearts on fire.
And a kiss of your lips made me both hot and warm.

I stand and watch, as you sail away
And I can't be with you
And if you decide you want to come back,
and moor the boat safely ashore,
I shall be waiting for you in a harbor.
Then I will be waiting for you in a harbor.
In a harbor, in a harbor.

You sail away and I'm not there with you.
I didn't see that coming.1
And if you wish to come ashore
then I'm standing, waiting in a harbor
In a harbor.

It's not so easy when everything goes against you
And I get so scared, when emotions get messed up
And if you want to come back for good,
then I'm standing, waiting in a harbor.
then I'm standing, waiting in a harbor.
... then I'm standing, waiting in a harbor.

  • 1. I couldn't see that which is happening.
Comentário do autor:

Pretty straight forward translation - the original text is already very similar to English.

The lyrics have some minor inconsistencies and typos, but then again, there's also quite a lot of slang use - so maybe it's how it's meant to be. There's also an obvious misuse of punctuation.

Good translation but on the second verse Im pretty sure it's supposed to be

Og jeg får ikke være med = And im not allowed to come along
&
Og hvis du finner ut at du vil komme frem = And if you decide you want to arrive

Also in the second last paragrapf I would alter "I couldn't see that which is happening" to "I didn't see that coming"

There are some more really minor errors, but they are so insignificant i won't list them. Overall I think it's a really good translation

Thanks Baccaratta! feel free to comment on all my translations - I'm always looking to improve them.

1. Og jeg får ikke være med - fixed!
I was wondering, does the idiom "å være med" has only one meaning? or does it change according to the context?

2. Og hvis du finner ut at du vil komme frem - yes, I know it should be "arrive", but then the sentence doesn't make much sense in English. I've added the literal meaning as a footnote - what do you think?

3. I didn't see that coming - fixed as well, although I left my version as a fn, I kind of liked it

4. What about "Og hvis du vil komme i lang" (2nd to last verse)? I wasn't sure there and gave several interpretations.

Thanks!

Sure, I'll browse through some from time to time when I get the oppertunity.

1. "å være med" could be translated to just "join" but it is context sensitive
the two most common being:
Jeg vil å/og(I also want) være med(to join)
Jeg(I) blir med('ll join)
If you watch closely you'll see that "med" = join, and blir/være is setting it in timecontext, but the word "være" is special because it again is sensitve to context, in this case "å"

2. Number two is a pun, if im not mistaking the correct translation of the meaning would be: "And if you decide you want to reach your destination"

3. Nice

4. to be honest i think it's a typo from the band and supposed to be "Og hvis du vil komme i *land*" where land in this context means shore. So the sentence will be "And if you wanna come ashore"

Keep up the good work!

Thanks!

Regarding #2, still not sure about it, and it's quite ambiguous as to whether she'll be coming back or perhaps set on leaving for good. The last line of the verse does imply towards her coming back. It all sounds kind of weird, but maybe it's because this whole song is based on metaphors.

Regarding #4, makes sense, and it also appears as "land" in the video. Now we just need either the submitter or a mod to correct it.
