O que significa "Keeping up with the ..."?

Inglês

Keeping up with the Joneses. Jones is a family name. The Joneses refers to the family members of the Jones name.
When you are overly concerned with social status, or worldly goods, wealth and so on belonging to others as compared to what you have and trying to be competitive about it then you are trying to 'keep up with the Joneses'. If your neighbor buys a boat, and then you buy one too, or buy one bigger that would be an example. Sending children to college would be another, etc..
