Have you tried http://www.versuri.ro ? They have lots of song lyrics there. I would still listen to the song with the written lyrics in front of me, and make sure there aren't errors in the lyrics (I've had this happen...when I actually listen to the song the lyrics are different from what's written down) but in general they aren't a bad resource. If you can't find it there I'd be happy to give it a try when I get a minute :)

Here's my version. I'm in a hurry now, so maybe I made a few mistakes.
I'll get back in about 56 hours and revise the lyrics if that is still going to be needed.
Aylin and/or Katherine, you may submit the lyrics and I'll let you know if I spot any inaccuracies in my transcription.

Când vâslele-s rupe, când pânzele-s sparte și cârma-i sfărmată,

[R: ...]

Hello !
@ Katherine : The lyrics weren't on Versuri.ro when I looked...I always check there (I once found lyrics of a Belgian singer I hadn't found before :-) )
@ Calusarul: Thank you very much for the lyrics :-) I think there shouldn't be a lot of mistakes, but because I don't know all the words, I can't correct...But I'm glad already that I see several parts in your version that I also recognized :-) And If I have time during my lunchbreak, I will try to verify with the dictionary...

Unfortunately as you both know already : a lot of sites are blocked at work and so I can't listen to the song here (don't see all your videos neither) , and I have to replace the "squares" by the diacriticals :-( As long as they don't block LT, I will be happy !!!

I'd say it's pretty accurate.
I'm not sure, but I think that "totuna" (the same) is some Moldovan way of saying "totdeauna" or "întotdeauna".
I tried submitting it myself after I saw your message above, but I got the same error. Ask one of the admins, they'll probably help you with that.

Ah, and sorry for the diacritics problem. I can't do it without them. It's the same thing as with accents in French, and I cannot not use them.

I can't not use diacritics either (or accents in Spanish). Seems most people type in Romanian without them, and even a lot of websites don't use them, but it always looks odd to me (and I hate it when sites like Yahoo put those stupid rectangular things in place of the diacritics). My Romanian teacher is adamant about people writing with diacritics and critical of those who don't use them, so I learned that almost from the very beginning. My Spanish teachers were like that too...if you don't use accents, you don't get a good grade :)

And speaking of things that really bug me, I've noticed that some of the Spanish songs I've looked at recently (and to a lesser extent some of the Romanian ones) deliberately misspell things, like pork instead of porque. Do they think they're being cute or something? I just find it irritating. If I had the time, I'd go in and edit every single one of those deliberate misspellings!

Katherine, are you married? If you are not, I'll send you my résumé and apply for the husband job!
Aylin, I won't send my résumé to you. Gotta use those diacritics to get under my skin, baby.
I'm joking, ladies, please don't mind me. But I like the way Katherine "put a dot over the i".
I guess (young) people today misspell intenionally some words because they think it's cool, I used to do that myself in English (not in Romanian, I respect Romanian more :P, gotta instead of got to -as above-, gonna instead of going to, U instead of you, Xmas instead of Chrismas etc ). They will get over that phase when they grow up, but the real concern is the unintentional misspelling. I'm a teacher, I see how they spell at their job.

Thank you, Mr It.
To be honest, I didn't like the song the first five or six times I listened to it.
Now I have accepted it. It's ok.
I used to think of myself as a romantic person, but not that romantic :P
Now I consider myself peasantly romantic :))

I really understand you, because in French I can't support misspelling neither and I write with all the accents and the apostrophes, the cedilla's and so on...(I remember how it bothered me that my first cellphone could only write in Capital letters without accents :-) ) In Dutch and English, the spelling is a lot easier, but I there also I don't like abbrevations or "SMS-language" like Katherine mentioned in her message! I always write every word completely ...So...If I only could be administrator of my machine...it would be much better and you wouldn't blame me anymore ;-) and I could visit romanian websites without seeing all those rectangles...

Awwww...I'm already married, with 3 kids :) The youngest one can say a few things in Romanian, just because I practice a lot when she's around. I call her "pui" because she's the "baby" but she doesn't like that too much :)

I have a 5 year old niece and I call her Bubu from Buburuză (ladybird).
I asked her when she was 3 whom she loved the most, she said her mother; then I asked her who she thinks loves her the most, she said I did. Why? "Because you call me Buburuză and you buy me all those things, toys..." I guess her mother loves her the most, but I am very close to that "most" standard.
Her mother (my sister) heard that discussion and said: "Hmm, you are buying my daughter's love, aren't you?". And Bubu said: "Yeah, buy me some more love, unchiulețule!"

Katherine, you're a native speaker of English. I made two minor changes in a translation. Help me out, please; am I guessing right or am I complicating things?

So goodbye,
sweet appetite,
no single bite
could satisfy...

Adio, dar,
poftă bună,
căreia o singură mușcătură
nu i-ar fi de ajuns...

You're guessing right :)

LOL...uncles are here to spoil their nieces! My daughter doesn't like it when I call her "pui" because she's 10 (almost 11) years old and doesn't like to be called a baby. But she's the youngest one, so she is the baby :) She says "NU sînt 'pui' " when I call her that :) I'm willing to bet she's the only one in her school who knows a little bit of Romanian!

Your "pui" is probably the only child in your state to know a bit of Romanian, since our language is not an international one. But the world doesn't know what a beautiful language they're missing.
You know, people say "pui" to their sweethearts as well. In the old times, men/boys called their girlfriends pui, puică, puicuță (also mândră, mândruță etc) and girls/women used to call their boyfriends nene/neică - the same for uncle or elder brother. Girls and women were more "respectful" in the old days. :)
How should I put this (chicken) in English so that it sound(s) as delicate as in Romanian?

No connection to the paragraph above, have you ever listened to this? Would you be so kind and translate that song into Romanian one day, when you have the time? I'm not sure I understand all of it.

Aylin, could you take a look at this translation of Comme ils disent? I'm not sure I understood everything as it should be.
And also this one: :P Ne me quitte pas

I can translate it when I get a little time. Be patient with me--if it takes a little while, it's because life is a real zoo right now. I'm changing jobs at the end of the month and moving to another state, but I won't forget :)

The way I'd translate that line is "you loved me like a gentle chick".

And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if "pui" is the only child in my state who knows a little Romanian. The closest place I've been able to practice Romanian with a native speaker is in Chicago which is 2-3 hours away by car! There are a couple of Romanian restaurants there, where I have eaten and talked with the owners and waiters.

Don't worry, n-au intrat zilele în sac, we have plenty of time.
I imagine "people" in heaven learn foreign languages, sing, paint, act in plays... otherwise they'd get bored. I'm not sure I'll get to heaven, so I'm trying to have an imitation of heaven here on earth :)
