Insects in ice

Insects in ice

We were lying thoughtleesly in the grass, that also grows when time stands still and silently
Facing the raindrops, dawning, gaping high upon the clouds
But the air got cold and late

We let our wishes go up
Like a kite without a rope
We wanted to grab it later
But only grabbed into the emptiness

And there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice

A shy look, a new trick
You're Adam and I'm Eve - only with red hair
The doubts grew fruit and we let us seduce
Although the fruit was forbidden

Around your smile already blew an icy wind
I looked there once too much and became blind

And there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice
With salt in the lashes and noisy ears
We've lost all our colours
Because there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice
Insects in ice

We warmed up our hands by talking
And got cold feet by wanting too much
We remained sitting and the plans remained sketches
Lacks remained in the minutes

And the chats became weak like withered leaves
I got deaf with the last sentence you spoke

And there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice

A shy look, a new trick
You're Adam and I'm Eve - only with red hair
The doubts grew fruit and we let us seduce
Although the fruit was forbidden

Around your smile already blew an icy wind
I looked there once too much and became blind

And there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice
With salt in the lashes and noisy ears
We've lost all our colours
Because there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice
Insects in ice

I didn't recognize myself, when I stood in the flowers
I didn't recognize me
I felt so blooming, when I stood in the flowers
I didn't recognize me
And just in the end i realized:
The flowers were timeless in the fall and poisonous

And there came the winter and everything turned white
I'm still waiting today for the ice to melt

And there came the winter and everything went white
We were trapped like insects in ice
With salt in the lashes and noisy ears
We've lost all our colours

This is a good translation. I have a question and suggestions. First, question:

what does a noisy ear mean? That doesn't really make sense in English, but I have no idea what a tosendes Ohr is either.

herbstzeitlos-Well, I would think this is a reference to the flower, Herbstzeitlose, which in English is called "autumn crocus", "meadow saffron" or "naked lady." The flower is poisonous....it's weird that the name would be used as an adjective here. Maybe what is meant is, "I didn't realize the flowers were blooming in the fall and poisonous"?

Ich hab mich selbst nichterkannt-Recognize sounds weird in this context, though it might be the right translation. But I know that "erkennen" also means "perceive." I wonder if "I didn't perceive myself" or "I didn't understand myself" might be better.

Suggestions:

Facing the raindrops, dawning, gaping high upon the clouds-defying the raindrops, dozing, staring at the clouds sounds more like what is meant. to gape means to stare at something in shock or surprise.

we let us seduce-we let ourselves be seduced

Around your smile already blew an icy wind-an icy wind had already blown around your smile.

I looked there once too much and became blind-I looked there one too many times and became blind. Though I wonder if "I looked back too many times" would be better.

Lacks remained in the minutes-Gaps remained in the record( s ) . "minutes" is a recordkeeping term for recording the events of an official meeting.

I got deaf-I became deaf

I felt so blooming-blümerant also means "queasy", doesn't it? That would fit this context a lot better.

There were a bunch of mistakes in the lyrics (the penultimate paragraph was missing completely). Now it should make more sense.

"in Blüten stehen" means "to be abloom".

You're correct with the "Herbstzeitlose", huron.pliskin.

"blieben Lücken in den Protokollen" refers to the line before that, so it means
"(the plans) remained gaps in the reports".

"blümerant" only means "queasy". It doesn't have that literal meaning.

"tosende Ohren" means to hear the blood rushing through your ears.
