Marcha da Mouraria
Alma, nervo e coração
Das cantigas da Sevara
Olha o bairro da Sevara
Na noite de S. João
A Rua da Amendoeira
Foi ao muro do Derrete
P’ra deixar de ser solteira
E casar com o Alegrete
Haja festa, animação
E alfazema nos caminhos
Que a Rua do Capelão
Vai casar os dois pombinhos
Cigarras a cantar, guitarras a vibrar
Cantigas a bailar pelas vielas
Crianças a correr, esperranças a nascer
E cravos a aparecer pelas janelas,
Roseiras a florir, velhinhas a sorrir
Ungidas pela fé e p’la virtude
Fadistas a rezar e sino a tocar
Na Igreja da Senhora da Saúde
Alma, nervo e coração
Das cantigas da Sevara
Olha o bairro da Sevara
Na noite de S. João
P’ró enlace ter mais linha
E o noivo ir mais vaidaso
Vai a Guia ser madrinha
E o padrinho é o Bem Formoso
Nesse dia muita calma
Sem pregões e sem berreiros
Lá vai a Rua da Palma
Ao lado dos Cavaleiros
Cigarras a cantar, guitarras a vibrar
Cantigas a bailar pelas vielas
Crianças a correr, esperranças a nascer
E cravos a aparecer pelas janelas,
Roseiras a florir, velhinhas a sorrir
Ungidas pela fé e p’la virtude
Fadistas a rezar e sino a tocar
Na Igreja da Senhora da Saúde
Alma, nervo e coração
Das cantigas da Sevara
Olha o bairro da Sevara
Na noite de S. João

Traducere
The March of Mouraria neighborhood
Soul, nerve and heart
From Severa's songs
Behold to the Severa's neighborhood
At Saint John's night
The Almond Tree Street
She went to Derrete's walls
To fail to be a maiden
And to marry Alegrete
May it be much feast and joy
And lavenders on the way
On the Chaplain's street:
Two turtledoves are going to marry
Cicadas singing, guitars trilling
Songs to dance through the lanes
Children running, hopes to be raised
And carnations shown by the windows
Rosebushes blooming, elder ladies smiling
Taken by faith and virtue
Fado singers praying and bells ringing
In Our Lady of Good Health's church
Soul, nerve and heart
From Severa's songs
Behold to the Severa's neighborhood
At Saint John's night
For more sewing in the enlacement
For more pride of the bridegroom
Go to Guia to be the bridesmaid
And the bridesman is very handsome
It takes much calm at this day
With no cry and no brawl
There it go on Palma Street
Beside the knights
Cicadas singing, guitars trilling
Songs to dance through the lanes
Children running, hopes to be raised
And carnations shown by the windows
Rosebushes blooming, elder ladies smiling
Taken by faith and virtue
Fado singers praying and bells ringing
In Our Lady of Good Health's church
Soul, nerve and heart
From Severa's songs
Behold to the Severa neighborhood
At Saint John's night

Comentariile autorului:
I believe that Severa is referred to Maria Severa Onofriana, the first fado singer to became famous.
Mouraria is a neighborhood in Lisbon, used to be a kind of ghetto for the Moors after the Siege of Lisbon, in the Middle Ages.

It's a great Fado piece from the Fado Queen Amália Rodrigues.
