Sigurd's Song

Would you care to listen to my song?
There are so many things I can tell you
From the days of our ancient fathers:
The Golden Age!

There she sat, her name was Brynhildr!1
Sparkling before them all!
No one could indeed take on
As this proud woman's cohort!

Did you hear that, Brynhildr? O daughter of mine!2
You bring shame to me!
Of all the lords of the land,
None of them wishes to consort with you!

Sigurd3was well met with the ole shrew
Grani4adorned in gold from the heath.

Be silent, be silent, O father of mine
Listen to the truth here, I beseech!
A hero I have chosen
From far off in the east!

No more riches to gain
Nor glory or honor
Sigurd, he who struck the ole shrew,
It is he who I will only listen to!

Sigurd was well met with the ole shrew
Grani adorned in gold from the heath.

It was they, the Norns5who provided for me,
Here within my heart
I await the nine winters,
Which I still have yet to behold.

I sit upon a high stool,
High above the desolate mountains
Let it be struck with runes
By magical6dwarves!

Sigurd was well met with the ole shrew
Grani adorned in gold from the heath.

No one rides on Brynhildr's Pass7
But Sigurd the Blessed!8
He rides with Grani, his horse
Through flame and smoke!

Brynhildr sits upon a golden stool
Cold hard iron around her body
Sigurd swings the sharp-edged sword,
The chains torn asunder!

Sigurd was well met with the ole shrew
Grani adorned in gold from the heath.

Very nice work, and I appreciate you adding the footnote explanations. What took you so long? ;)

There just one thing I find a bit strange here - even though most of the text you've written is nicely phrased and very classy, at times it seems like you combine a more modern style of writing. for ex. "Will you guys just listen to my song?"
I could be wrong here though, and again, great work.

lol. good eye =D
When I first started, I had the intention of translating in a more modern fashion as I usually do. But, as I got deeper in and more in touch with the lyrics, I noticed the tone became more archaic...and so I adjusted without realizing it hehe. I can go ahead and make the changes if you like? =D Thank you ^_^
I'm in the process of translating your other requests (anyone else reading is free to do so -- I like reading other renditions!). Sorry that you had to wait long :~ :D but I'm glad I could get this one off your list!

Haha... well, the important thing is that you did them eventually - I was starting to fear they will get lost in the oblivion of old requests.
And I think it would be nicer to have this text, as a whole, more uniformly phrased - my taste always lean towards archaic ;)
I think Faun and their texts kind of calls of it, as you yourself noticed :)
