Soledad

¡Soledad! Es tan tierna como la amapola
Que vivió siempre en el trigo sola
Sin necesitar de nadie
¡Ay, mi Soledad!

¡Soledad! Es criatura primorosa
Que no sabe que es hermosa
Ni sabe de amor ni engaños
¡Ay, mi Soledad!

¡Soledad!

Soledad

Soledad! She's as delicate as a poppy
that always lived alone in the wheat
without needing anyone
Ah, my Soledad!

Soledad! She's an exquisite creature
that doesn't know she is beautiful
She knows neither of love nor deceptions
Ah, my Soledad!

Soledad! She lives like anyone else
in the village where she was born
She washes, sews, cries and laughs
Ah, my Soledad!

But I love her like that, distinct because she's sincere
She is as natural as the water that comes
running joyful from the spring
But I love her like that, distinct because she's sincere
She is as natural as the water that comes
Running joyful from the spring
Not even knowing where she's going
How happy lives my Soledad

Soledad! She is as beautiful as a dove
and as clear as the sun that peeks
through the thickets
Ah, my Soledad!

Soledad! She is an exquisite creature
that doesn't know she is beautiful,
She knows neither of love nor deceptions
Ah, my Soledad!

Soledad! She lives like anyone else
in the village where she was born.
She washes, sews, cries and laughs
Ah, my Soledad!

But I love her like that, distinct because she's sincere
She is as natural as the water that comes
running joyful from the spring.

But I love her like that, distinct because she's sincere
She is as natural as the water that comes
running joyful from the spring
Not even knowing where she's going
How happy lives my Soledad.

In spite of the fact that 'soledad' is written in low case, it is the name of a girl and, I think, he is talking about his girl: Soledad.

I think Nana Mouskouri is singing about how she values her solitude. I looked at several spanish lyrics sources for Nana's song before I posted mine and they all have solitude in lower case.

Soledad can be used either way, as a noun or a name. I found a singer, Emilio José, who sings this song and he chose to use Soledad as a proper name. I also found a group called El Consorcio that used solitude (lower case) in this song. The lyrics were translated into English showing solitude as "it". I think it just depends on the singers and how they want to convey the music.
