Ducks and drakes

I could've been a kid
A little child smiling
I wouldn't care about being wet
As I wouldn't care about the last rain*

But there's no water here
Just an ordinary silence
Always heavier and heavier
Crushing us like hell

All I wanted was play
But not with my life
And I see you shed
The tears we don't have right here

All I'd like to do is dance
To make the rain fall
I look at you digging
The soil but no wells

# I don't want charity
I don't want to bother you
I just want some water
And play ducks and drakes
Play ducks and drakes**

## I don't want charity
I don't want to bother you
I just want some water
To play ducks and drakes

I could've been a kid
(With a beautiful destiny)
Like any other growning up
(Far from African dunes)
Without having to look at
(Without having to endure)
A sky that's forgetting you
(A sky with no future)

I don't ask for a stream
Let alone a river
I just want to throw
Bottles in the sea

All I wanted was play
But not with my life
And I see you shed
The tears we don't have right here

All I'd like to do is dance
To make the rain fall
I look at you digging
The soil but no wells

Paris - Africa
All united for the same fight
Don't let them be ignored or forgotten
May the world wake up; it's time we did something

* Pun - literally this expression translates to "not to care more about something than the last rain", which means not to give a damn. Here it also refers to the rain that does not fall in Africa.

** Playing ducks and drakes is of course a metaphor - it takes litres and litres of water to make a stone bounce; all the children wish for is enough water to quench their thirst, then and only then could they even think about playing like other children.
