Mickey 3D - Ça m'étonne pas (превод на енглески)

превод на енглески

Comes as no surprise

A pretty little girl was walking in the street
A girl I didn't know
I said to her: Little girl, what are you doing in my street
I don't know you

She said to me:
I just moved here
And if you don't like it
You can sulk or spoil
My life but I'm not going to leave

And yet we could have been friends, gone dancing together at the ball
Met up in the morning, seen each other in the afternoon, gone walking under the stars
And yet we could all be friends, a bit like the ants
But people are like you, always distrustful
So war, comes as no surprise

A pretty little girl was walking in the street
A girl I didn't know
Made me realise in two or three words, no more
That I didn't exist
That pretty little girl walking in the street
I won't forget her
I wanted to see her again but I never could
She doesn't live there

And yet we could have been friends, gone dancing together at the ball
Met up in the morning, seen each other in the afternoon, gone walking under the stars
And yet we could all be friends, a bit like the ants
But people are like that, always distrustful
So war, comes as no surprise

Cheeky little beggars, eh? Regular smile

Alors la guerre ça m'étonne pas -> lit "therefore war does not surprise me"
There is no war on, he's just not surprised that there are such things as war - war does not come as a surprise - Dang... I don't know how to say that in proper English!

mai je n'ai jamais pu -> typo in the original (applying to be an editor might save me a lot of typing)

Since that war is not so surprising...

Oh absolutely!

I couldn't resist adding an English idiom of my own here. "Can't say I'm surprised" means exactly that with a certain added world weariness.

Oh it's raining again eh? Can't say I'm surprised (= that comes as no surprise to me)

It's actually 'her' that's singing at that point. I might add some italics actually to indicate the parts.

Although - now I wonder...
Do you think she means war in general. I rather read it as her saying that "she wasn't surprised that they were not going to be friends. "So it's war eh?"

But maybe not?
In which case - "So war comes as no surprise" / "it's no wonder there are wars" or something similar...

well yes, I mean the song also talks about some flaws of humanity at large. "war comes as no surprise " works on both levels, while "can't say I'm surprised" works only for the love story. Or am I imagining things?

Yes, that's comes closest to conveying the two senses I think. :-)
