Hi, I'm working on a Latvian-to-English translation (I studied Latvian in Riga for a year, so I do have a bit of background in the language) and I came across the word nozvanās, which I couldn't find in my dictionary.
Could you please help me with that word? Thank you.
I'm sorry I can't help you regarding that, since I don't speak Latvian.
My suggestion: try to contact the users who have declared themselves as native speakers of Latvian and who also speak English, here: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/members/none/0/325/0/0
Thank you.
I don't know much about Latvian, with only basic knowledge. Could 'nozvanās' mean 'by something (nozvan)'? Can you find 'nozvan' in your dictionary?
No, "nozvan" is not in my dictionary.
:) :) :)
The word "nozvanīt" has a similar core, and some other suffix "īt".
See here:

Core: "zvanit" most probably from the Russian language.
Regards for You.
P.S. This forum is one of the Slavic languages, and it is worth noting that the Latvian language is the Balts and does not belong to Slavian languages family.
:p
It looks like a form of the verb "nozvanīt".
Yeah, exactly - it's form of word "nozvanīties" , present tense. 3d person.
Like "phone rings" - telefons nozvanās.
usually U would use "nozvanīt" , but well, in some cases U use "nozvanīties" .
And, by the way, this questien doesn't belong to the topic 'slavic languages'
Latvian is completely and utterely different from slavic languages, it doesn't belong to slavic language group ;)
Exactly, although there is a certain group loanwords (small) between Baltic and Slavic languages, they are TWO DIFFERENT language families.
:)
Latvian is not a Slavic language, I have moved this thread to the "General language discussions."
