Two buckets in balance - cobiliță
Hey, guys. No English forum yet? Hmmm...
Can anyone tell me if there is a word in English to describe the bar that keeps two buckets in balance? I couldn't find it in the dictionary. Like the one in this picture.
In Romanian it's cobiliță and in (South) Slavic languages is something like kobilita (kobilitsa).
Hello, I may not be a native speaker of English but I found the word in the Leon Leviţchi Romanian-English Dictionary: cobiliţă –yoke, then I searched it on Wikipedia and this is where my search took me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoulder_pole.
And I also found it here http://www.thefreedictionary.com/yoke
So you can say: yoke, shoulder pole or carrying pole.
Thanks, licorna. I think I'll use the yoke.
P.S. I have a Levițchi & some other guy dictionary, but it's English-Romanian only - even if it's got ~ 35,000 words.
You’re welcome!
The dictionaries written by Leon Leviţchi are the mothers of all Romanian-English and English-Romanian dictionaries.
Well, Licorna, I only have the English-Romanian version of that dictionary. Will you look for the word "sacagiu" in that fancy dictionary of yours
?

Might that be called (a) balance?
